Hi, just looking for some suggestions...I am considering buying a bike that will need to be transported from Ga. to upstate NY.  As i have never shipped a bike before I am looking for suggestions of companies you may have used/liked or general things to know when shipping a bile

I used HaulBikes to get mine from Chicagoland to north Texas.  It took a week longer than quoted and I'm pretty sure, but couldn't prove, they scuffed the windshield, but it got here.  $6-700.00 if memory serves.

I used Reliable Carriers. They are reliable. Florida to Michigan $600.
I also used a local New Hampshire carrier from Daytona to New Hampshire during bike week once. You might get a good price if someone is coming down are coming down in March from the Northeast.

Amtrak...Train down and ride back...I am sure that one of out Ga brothers would pick you up at the station...

  I used B & B Trucking.  Very small with custom truck and guys that take care of your bike.  Took a little longer than some of others, but quality service.

i shipped my harley to alaska a few years back,, using forward air,,,
i drove it to thier warehouse put it in thier bike hauler and off it went!!!

Thank you all for your suggestion...yes it would be cheaper (and more fun) getting a ride down and riding back...the only issue is weather in upstate NY...we typically have snow (and salt on the roads) into April (even had snow storms here in May)  would like the bike here sooner than that SO...I may have to have a transport.  Again thank you for suggestions

Heated clothes don't help much navigating snow and ice.....  you might be warmer but that's about it.

If you can't wait til fair (fair enough) weather, ship it or rent a UHaul one way to get it.   If you are still in the considering mode.... consider a flight down to check it out and verify that is what you want.

Welcome fellow NYer. Like someone else suggested, check to see if anyone in your area is going to Daytona, that would consider bringing it back for you. Could be cheaper for both of you.

I have a daughter who lives about 3 hrs away in SC so renting a trailer and going down myself to pick it up is an option too.. considering everything

I live about 45 minutes south of Cumming. Weather here is suppose to be in the 60's for the next week so if you decide to drive down and rent a trailer the weather will not be an issue.

Eagle One sounds like the shipper that I contacted a while back when he was independent and I wanted to give him the business. He drove his own truck but unfortunately he had a scheduled route and wouldn't be able to deliver the bike to the West Coast docks early enough to make the ship to Hawaii. The ship departs twice a month. I didn't want to pay storage fees at the dock waiting for the next ship. Which ever shipper you choose, be prepared to fax or Email the title to them. They really can't transport a bike without the ownership documents in hand. I believe that's true with all shippers. Also, if memory serves me, JC Motors required the pick-up be arranged at a loading dock or equivalent, otherwise there was an extra charge for them to secure a forklift. Understandably, they don't tow a forklift behind their trailer cross country. Another plus, with JC Motors is that they had a tracker which you could use to check to see where your bike was at a given moment. Yea, I checked where Santa was at least twice a day.
