Victor was clobbered in his truck last Thursday and I almost joined him tonight on the way back from Austin in the Acura.

I was in the FW mixmaster heading north, about to go east on I-30 when I saw a pickup charge up on the right side and then move in behind me.  He was really moving.  As he moved in, he hit the brakes but I could see he was still coming too fast and his headlights were diving.  So I floored it and that 6-cyl Honda engine kicked into high.  As I accelerated, his headlights temporarily were out of view but then became visible again as I put distance between us.  I'll bet he was inches away from my back bumper as he was slamming on his brakes and I was blasting forward.  After getting 4 car lengths between our cars, I slammed on my brakes, being a bit pissed off.  He then REALLY dropped back until we both headed east, then he pulled over 3 lanes and accelerated out of sight.

Whew!

I am positive that if not for my defensive driving skills developed from riding motorcycles, I would still be picking pickup bumper out of my butt.

Glad you were quick thinking, your car was fast moving, and you escaped without injury or damage.

My grandson was not so lucky Sunday night. A juiced up driver in a Ford pick-up slammed into the rear of his Cavalier at a very high speed and crushed the rear end completely flat all the way to the driver's seat. The driver of the truck was so out of it, he didn't even apply his brakes while the Grandson was sitting at a light. He survived the crash but I think he will have serious back injuries later. Makes you want to trailer the bike thru any city until you are far away from some city drivers. And to boot, the truck driver jumped out of his truck and ran, only to be arrested later.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Looks like everyone is having issues.  First of all, RM, glad you are OK.  My son spun out during all the ice and got into the cables dividing the lanes of Hwy 80 in Forney.  Did $7600 worth of damage to his truck.  His insurance company refuses to call it weather related.  They are quite sure it is an "at fault" accident.  That was they can raise the rate or cancel without explanation.  Gotta love big companies lookin out for themselves only.

Glad everyone is OK.

Sounds like a very close call, 99RD.  I hope your son doesn't have long-term problems from this.  Is there enough insurance to go 'round?

So sorry to hear about your grandson.  Is he in the hospital being treated for injuries?  Nothing worse than looking in the rearview and knowing there is nothing you can do to avoid being hit.  Prayers to him and the family.
