Hangin' out here beats a tree on the head any day!

« on: February 15, 2011, 01:53:57 PM »

ok, i don't know why this happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR....year after year. I don't know why it's such "rocket science". BUT...I JUST CALLED...and talked to them about rooms (cabins and chalets too). AND...THERE ARE SO MANY ROOMS, CABINS, and CHALETS....i couldn't write down all the numbers accurately. BOTTOM LINE...there are LOTS of EVERY kind of room, chalet, cabin left. LOTS....even SMOKING rooms........

again, when i ask....they tell me YOU...must not be saying "the valkyrie group". I know, you say you are? Again...it's some kind of "vodoo math" i guess. BUT I ALSO NOTICED, even with me....they were confused. At first the person on the phone would say " you have this many left" of one kind of room/cabin/chalet...but then..........a voice in the background would correct them and say "no....you have to enter this number, bark like a dog, stand on your head...and then you'll get the CORRECT number".  (Ok, maybe they said it slightly different than that  uglystupid2 )

SO, just that i know of...before i stopped her from going further...i know for a fact there are:

1 EZ access cabin or chalet (not sure which it is)
2 pet friendly chalets
4 double occupancy cabins
4 4 man cabins
3 double hotel rooms
1 handi cap hotel room
3 double smoking hotel rooms
4 king hotel rooms
and more.............i got tired of copying down all this.

GIT-R-DONE!  THERE ARE PLENTY OF ROOMS (just like i thought).

oh, the number they use to get this info from the computer....is 1059. That is our group number. USE IT. maybe FEWER errors will occur (still tell them you are with the VALK group...mention my name...use that number...1059)

dang it...i can't see the pic (blocked). Where is it? I'll take some educated guesses. Downtown Grill? Barbers? (we're going to Barbers on the group ride). I'm going with Downtown grill.

Did i get it right? Dang blocked pics/videos....i hate it when i can't see most this stuff (here at work)........

Anybody wanting a roomie?  I don't smoke and am potty trained...most of the time.  Evil

I camped out last year and just about got blown off the side of the mountain the first night.  The next night, RedValk was nice enough to let us stay in an extra room up top (thanks again for that).  Lesson learned.

2funny Yea and dont let the ol lady pic your camp stop. She will put it in a swail and Sat morning after a rain it feels like you are on a water bed. 5" of water outside our tent.

Too late.  Already made that mistake, too.  Last year's Cheaha - we rolled in at dusk.  She picked the spot for the tent.  I could hardly see what I was doing since it was getting dark out, but we got it set up.

Two days later, I had the worst case of poison ivy I've ever had.

Tough way to learn, but you can bet that if I end up camping again - I'll show up earlier and be a lot more selective with my site choice.

You guys goin' this year?  If so, you campin'?

Had a blast there in 08 and hope to go back in a few years. If we did, yea we'd be camping.

lol  I remember that, but dont feel bad, we picked a "high and dry" spot and still got all wet because of sideways rain at 500mph.  Kinda why we pay for a room now

I still remember you and Willow walking away from me going up the mountain on the way back from the group ride.  Good times!

Yeah - I didn't realize how windy it was that first night until I heard about how a Valk blew over the night before.  I guess the cover on it acted like a huge sail and just blew the fat lady over.

Oh well - at least this year it's later so here's to hoping for warmer weather.

weather WILL be better....we moved the dates back to accomplish that.

But when it blows/storms up there...it is a mountain and the weather can be really something. That's why i always say...............staying UP TOP.................is a MUST!!!!!!!!!  you don't want to be riding down that mountain in the NIGHT....to a hotel in the valley, to save "a buck 95". It aint worth diein' for..............ya' know what i mean! uglystupid2

I do now that I've been there.  It sure was tempting to just stay with my parents in Talladega.  But you are 110% right - no fun to be had going down that mountain at night.  And, you can't have any fun up top (read: adult beverages) if you know you gotta ride back down that night.

Staying on the mountain is a must.  I'm just cheap and hoping that somebody wants to split a room.  If not, I'll camp out and survive just fine, I'm sure.

When I call the number on the Cheaha page I get is a recording telling me to make my reservations through the website then hung up on.  When I try to call through the AL State Parks 800 number, I get transferred to the Cheaha number with the same result.   Angry
