I see they took a American hostage. What do you think we should do? Negotiate or use military force? I don't think we should pay a ransom like others have done for their ships if they want one. I vote use force. Maybe they will learn not to do this.

I agree, they should equip every boat in that region with a 50 Cal. and watch the fur fly

Well, ATTEMPT a rescue...and if it goes bad... that's acceptable.
I heard somewhere that when the crew took the ship back... they physically tossed the pirates overboard, into the ocean.
??
Was that true?

I have always felt that the hijackers should be given a choice .... surrender or the vessel will be destroyed ... end of negotiations! Do that a couple of times and your ships, planes and everything else will stop getting hi-jacked.

But what if it's full of oil? We would have to spend billions on cleanup and recovery If the US blew any foreign ship out of the water, our foreign relations would suffer a major blow.

LOL... The "pirates" are on what I would call a large "skiff".... an oversized "john boat".... not very impressive.... you could buy ten of their boats for what one of those AR's they are flashing cost. I'd like to take bets on how high the boat would go when it was stuck by a surface to surface missle.... My bet would be about 85'. Take no prisoners.... is my motto!

We (Germany) have armed forces there. Of course, they got a few of them. What happened? We gave them over to the local enforcement authority....nice idea....why not give them their weapons back....
I would say fire and forget....have a nice day.....

But what if it's full of oil? We would have to spend billions on cleanup and recovery Something tells me that if you hit oil with a enough high explosives it will burn ... end of cleanup and or recoveryIf the US blew any foreign ship out of the water, our foreign relations would suffer a major blow. I would only apply this to US Vessels. If other countries wish to negotiate and pay millions of dollars just to be hijacked again then let them. I think the Israelis have it right, 'No Negotiations .... surrender or the vessel will be destroyed'

Drop 3-4 seals with rebreathers over the side of the ship. Let them swim out and put a few slow leaks or a small charge on the bottom of the boat/raft. After the charge goes off or the boat sinks they release the captain. If they kill him, we chum the water, stand off and wait til the sharks take em. Either way we DONT negotiate with terrorists!
Just my .02. Robert

One of the news reports I heard stated that most commercial ships are unarmed because their insurance requires it. They're pretty much limited to evasive maneuvers and water cannon. I wonder how many insurance payouts it would take to make them revisit their policy. -RP

What really needs to happen is a decoy , several decoy ships pretending to have a big load and look like a easy target , loaded with armed experienced men . Can't believe they have not done this yet

If I were the skipper in the dingy I'd convince the thugs that I needed to take a leak. I'd jump out and swim to the front where they couldn't see where I was. Hang on, and wait for the Navy Seal Team to come get me. Other than that, order up a Navy Sub to surface from directly below the orange dingy. It would be high and dry on the deck of the Sub. Get under way with a heading for about a thousand miles out to sea . . . then make the thugs walk the plank.

Well this is America...I think we should negotiate...then pay them the money ...and try to get the Captain back....then if we do get him back great we still blow them and the money up....we probably spend more money then that on the 4th of July....

[/quote] You can't be serious, pay them the money? NO F*&$ing WAY! The amount of money isn't even a consideration. Heck, the "Messiah" is printing trillions anyway. Maybe he could walk out to the boat and ask them nicely to give our captain back!

Gotta agree with Duffy. Pay them and it will never stop. The French just raided one of their hijacked vessels. One hostage and two pirates dead. (ya, I couldn't believe the French could fight either). Navy Seals at night, save the Captain and all hostages die in the process. Then we arm our flag carrying vessels and forcefully do not allow hijacking. Unfortunatelt the likely outcome will be to negotiate, pay them serious money and then start foreign aid to the underpriviledged pirates. This country needs to stand tall and take no crap.
