My wife is working in Fredericksburg next week. I will be going along with her but probably caging with her.

I need some ideas of good places to stay and eat while we stay in Fredericksburg as she will be making presentations in the schools there.  I've stayed in Kerrville and in Leakey, but not Fredericksburg.

Thanks!

That I have already done.  But priceline, hotels.com, etc won't tell me about the experiences of people whom I trust.

Thanks.

Thank you, your Majesty.  I'm reading about them now.  Looks great.  But they may be booked up. Sad

But I'll have this for the future.  It's the best I've seen so far.

Lot's of nice B&B's near by.  My wife and I stayed at the Grape Creek Winery B&B once and had a great time.  Bound to be some within walking distance of all the shopping and stuff.

Lot's of nice restaurants, brew pubs, wine tasting rooms, sandwich shops, etc. all around there, too.  Probably won't be too crowded during the week, but they do roll up the sidewalks pretty early.

My son, his wife and baby stayed downtown Fredericksburg during the summer. His biggest complaint was all the bikers reving thier loud engines at 2 in the morning. They were withing walking distance of a local bar. (I still grin when I think of this!)

all the shopping is on Main Street. between 100 and 500 address...favorite eats....Auslander - good german and usually have some guy playing music....Old German Bakery - breakfast....there are lots of good eats...I don't think I've had a bad meal there....if you don't want to drive...and just want to walk to everything....I would stay in hotels, motels on Main between 200 and 600 address...we always stayed at Sunday House for years, we always enjoyed it....last year we tried Super 8...across the street form Sunday House...Super 8 was just as good and cheaper...also across the street is a Hampton Inn, nice cost??? Have fun!!!!

Now I know you're bragging.  Why would anyone think they need....

1 cat?

Muchas gracias for the offer but we need to be in the town for Mama's programs.  We are set.  But we will be in the maxi-cage (mini-van) so I'll show her around the 3 sisters in it but it won't be the same.  I'd take the I/S down but she is leaving so late on Wed night that I will need to help her drive.  The same coming back.  And honestly, a 30 minute ride is about the longest she has been on the bike before complaining about the hardness of the seat (it's an Ultimate).  Better just to cage it.

We stayed at the Fredercksburg Inn and Suites a couple of years ago. Nice place two pools and hot tub and big screen TV  out by the pool. Breakfast is included. Was about 100 bucks a night, biker friendly. Right on 16 just two bucks from 290, easy walking.

We've often stayed at Hotopp House, by Gästehaus Schmidt..... two blocks away from Main Street, one block from Altdorf. Very nice historic B&B. 1914 Suite sleeps 4 and is $180 per night, the other side of the house, Fireplace Suite is bigger but has bedding for 2 and a child. $130 per night.

Cheers!

Don't forget the National Museum of the Pacific.  http://www.pacificwarmuseum.org/index.asp

Quote from http://www.pacificwarmuseum.org/FleetAdmiralNimitz.asp "Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, who at the height of the Pacific war commanded more than two million men and women, 5,000 ships and 20,000 planes, was of humble and landlocked beginnings. Nimitz was born February 24, 1885 to an already widowed mother, and was raised in the small German community of Fredericksburg, Texas..."
