After 9000 miles on a Potenza 019 I am ready to do the spline lube etc and will be returning to an Avon Cobra. Not that I was all that dissatisified with the darkside I found that most of my riding is around town on not so even pavement and slow riding in the parking lots. What that equals is a lot of not great handling and the bike moving around by itself. Not real bad but bad enough that I want to go back to the neutral steeting and lack of tracking. I do not think there is any danger in riding the darkside and I could go back to the Potenza when I start doing more trips and highway riding when I retire. Its been a good ride. Take care all, ride safe. Kilroy

Headin' that way myself. A screw in the HydroEdge has hastened the good in me to come back. On a bike tire shall I ride.

I might go back to the DarkSide again when this new motorcycle specific tire wears out, but I was having real strange handling issues and I had to eliminate EVERYTHING possible since I was getting nervous to even ride my girl around the block. I liked the DarkSide on my first NON motorcycle specific tire but the second one was kinda goofy in the pants.

Fordmano, good luck with your issue. I hope you find out what the problem really is. Although the darkside has many, many advantages, slow speed handeling is not one of them. In any event ride safe. Kilroy

Well the transition has been completed and all is well. The lively, agile Dragon is back. I guess I had not realized how much input was needed to drive the car tire. I find myself adjusting because I am somewhat over steering right now. Overall I had a very good experience with the darkside. For me and the roads I ride on daily the MC tire proves to be easier and more comfortable. Thanks to all who replied to my message and good, safe riding to all. Kilroy

I ride the darkside strictly for the benefit of the tire cost savings and the obscene mileage I get from the car tire.

I've always wondered if it was the brand of tire you are running.
I've settled in on the Good Year Triple Tread at 36#. You will have to pry my cold dead fingers off the bars to get me back to MC tires on the rear.
Yeah yeah I know, I have been back and forth for several years. BUT, it was only when I couldn't get someone to mount a car tire and I was on the road somewhere.
Like on my last Alaska trip. Run over a sharp rock, slit the face and the bike shop did not have a tire, but the station I was at had a car tire. Bike shop would not mount it so i waited 4 days for a MT to get up there. That really pissed me off. It was right at $500 for the firkin tire, mounted, balanced and etc. The freight to get it there almost killed me. The bike shop did give me a bike to ride during the wait.

Next tire I'm going to try that zip tie trick to mount the tire.
I've always mounted and balanced the tires myself but the mounting is the most difficult part.
Always looking for an easier way and cheaper also. Local shops want 30 bucks or more to mount and balance the tire even when you bring the wheel in by itself!

I mounted my last car tire myself. I had to use a ratcheting tiedown to help squeeze the tire into the middle of the wheel. One it was mounted, the bead popped onto the rim with a loud pop at 30 psi. Went to balance it, and it was perfect! Then I rebalanced the front tire that the dealer had balanced poorly!

I still wish some tire manufactuer would make a 185/70/16 or 195/70/16 car tire to try. Having to squeeze a 205 tire on our skinny Valkyrie rim just makes the CT a pain at low speeds. Haven't found one yet!

Guess I am lucky. There's an independent tire shop about 5 miles from the house that will mount a car tire for $10.
