My dad, now deceased, was a marine infantry marksman at Guadalcanal and then Iwo Jima before "bomb" was dropped.  Large fatality rate among those marines.  He would never talk about it, but after he died my sister was executor and found old envelopes with commendations, medals etc that we never knew existed.  cooldude

A simpler time back then.  I noticed that on some of the pictures they gave the soldiers name and address.  Didn't have to worry about all the crazies back then.
