I was wondering if anyone has a Ural? They're cheap and I think having one would be a blast!

I have two friends with Urals.  One with the side car and one without.  They both like them for what they are, which is a somewhat low quality copy of a 50 year old BMW R71 twin boxer.  The newer ones (2004+) are a lot better.  Several BMW shops can get repair parts, but it can take time.

In the short time that I was in the sidecar club, quite a few drivers had Ural rigs. They weren't made for the interstate but were real popular for back roads and off roads, especially the ones with the sidecar driven wheel.

As Bobbo said, they are more reliable now but probably still not up to sustained interstate speeds.

If you want to pilot your hack down the interstate then you'll need more bike with better brakes than a Ural. If you want to putter around town with family and friends then it sounds like a good way to do it.
If you want to snatch out the engine and stick in a porsche boxter and put on BMW wheels then you could really have the best of both worlds (it looked like a really fun Ural).

Urals do occasionally take trips just be ready to tinker on the bike along the way.

Honestly, I'd love a Ural. I think it would be a fun commuter some days.

Actually, there’s dealer about 40 minutes away. He has a couple sidecar models on his floor. The sidecar is the only way I’d consider one and it would be strictly for what was mentioned above;  back roads and around the county. I got my eye on an OD green one, even comes with a spare tire and a rack mounted on the back of the sidecar.

Now that I’m losing some serious weight and I’m almost back into the human range, I think it would pull me crazy2

I'd like to have one, too. A cool little rig to putz around town ... go'n to the hardware store or a beer run.
