Woke up a little bit ago and saw the ENTIRE U.S. West Coast, All of Hawaii and southern Alaska is under a Tsunami Warning. Japan got hit by a 8.9 earthquake followed by a 13ft Tsunami. All you guys in the coastal areas get your families and fat ladies to higher ground.

Just heard the Tsunami is expected to hit Hawaii at 8 a.m. Eastern and the West Coast about 2-3 hours later.

I am live less than 50 miles from the left coast pond and I think I should be fine. Watched a couple hours of news reports here at the office over night and I am still here at work for another 1.5 hours then I can get to higher ground. Work at Stanford University and I guess we are only about 25-30 miles at best from the Bay but I think we are a bit above the pending water level would get. Feel sorry for those folks over there in the path of this devistation, I am sure our Government will send plenty of assistance over there. Oh and they had a refinery burn up, wonder how that will effect fuel prices around the world. I know it is just one refinery but the world seems fuel driven more than ever.

My office is smack-dab in the middle of the Eureka/Arcata Tsunami zone... just a few feet above the high tide line. We are on Hwy 101 along the bay between the two cities. Sixty miles north... the city of Crescent City is being evacuated. They suffered a major hit back in 1964. They are under the assumption at this point that it will be the same deal. All eyes are on Hawaii at this point in time to gauge the impending results here on the Cali north coast. The surge entering and exiting the bay should be interesting. If it goes over the dunes that separate the actual coast from the bay and the cities... we will have a problem. Stay tuned... sheets

NorCal came through it okay. The boat basins in Crescent City and Fort Bragg took a serious beating. Tore up the docks in the marinas and damaged/destroyed a number of boats. That will hurt what's left of the fishing industry around these parts. Will know more about those two locations when the local news comes on this evening. Lots of evacuations for folks in the low lying areas, but all in all we (the affected counties) came through it perty much unscathed. The destruction in Japan defies words.

Yeah, it reminds me of the destruction here from Katrina. Couldn't believe the story of the guy in Crescent City that just had to go down to the harbor and takes pics of tsunami. Got washed out to sea and drowned. Feel sorry for his family and all of the Japanese people. They've got a tough row to hoe. I'm glad it wasn't any worse for Hawaii, Alaska and the West Coast.

This might just be the start. 8.9 quake. Holy Crap. The energy wave not only produced the tsunami but I'd bet it beat up pretty bad on some fault lines along the Pacific rim as well. Time will tell.

Prayers for your family. Thank you, We haven't talked to them directly, but heard through other family members that they are OK. Her husbands family owns 3 restaurants in Tokyo, not sure of their condition, but they can be replaced. Once the phones get back to normal, we'll get the full story. Thank you for your prayers and concern. And have an XXXL time at your BBQ. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be making it this year. Hope you have good weather, I know you'll have good company. See you and your better half at IZXI.
