I created a simple script on my Linux box when I quit smoking to give a public reminder of how long I'd made it (And also to have buy in from all my friends on various forums to help encourage me to stay quit, knowing I'd hafta reset that counter if I had a smoke.)
Over the years, I've set up a few others on my site for other people, but it's all hosted on a server in my house, using some rather crude kludges to make it work (Any real coder would cry if they saw the spaghetti mess of code and scripts that ties it all together.)
Anyway... Purpose of this post, just discovered a nice clean website with a simple interface so anyone can add this simple little image to their signatures. It might sound silly, but I found having this counter on my posts REALLY helped me stay quit, knowing I'd hafta fess up to a lot of people if I fell off that wagon...
No ties to this site, just discovered it tonight, but so far I'm very impressed with the setup. Impressed enough to switch off my home brew solution to their much slicker one.
Since my last cigarette...
