hurt myself....well, I did bloody my thumb a little when a bristle from the wire brush stuck in me.... Cheesy......The Wife bought me a little Harbor Freight wire welder for Christmas along with a metal cut-off saw.....I decided to make me a small welding table to practice my welding skills....only had about 2 weeks of welding instruction in the 7th and 8th grade.....a buddy of mine did show me some basics of how to use this welder.....I'm NO expert by any means....woodworking is more my speed.....something about not liking fire or something like that??!!...... Cheesy......the main reason I wanted it was to add a small electrical winch to the tongue of my landscape trailer in case I ever need to pull a "dead" mower up on it again....or heaven forbid a motorcycle..... Shocked

Well, I won't be taking any jobs away from a REAL welder....most of the welds looked rough, but I think they will hold together..... Undecided.......I started by measuring the top piece for the table....it was about half the cost of a true rectangular piece(I should have payed for a squared up piece)....I made the frame the width of the shortest side....21.5"....by 60"....

I also bought some angle iron.....here's Lucy Little Foot surveying the situation to see if she could help or not.....NOT, I was making too much noise and sparks....

I got the "Boss" to take a couple of pics of the Mad Welder.....

I turned it upside down and began adding the legs....trying to square them up with magnets...not as easy as it should have been..... Sad

I added more bracing to make it sturdy....placed it on a level sidewalk and it was square to the ground.....

I just laid the loose top on it to get an idea of what it'll look like when it's cut to size and tacked on.....

I already regret not getting the top already squared up....it's only about 3/16" thick, but I don't have an easy way to cut it....I don't think I have a cut-off wheel....nor a cutting torch(too much fire for me)..... Sad Sad.....I may have to take it to a welding shop and let them cut it for me..... Undecided

Well.....I didn't win any beauty awards, but maybe this thing will come in handy for a few things besides welding.....I still have to do a little grinding on it, clean-up and need to paint it black..... cooldude

Stan, you need to recruit about 3 pals to help move it inside. I had a customer that welded one about twice that size with 1/2 plate......He had to rent a fork lift to get into his shop  uglystupid2

I used 1/8" angle iron....the whole frame is lighter than the weight of the top....I can carry the top with no problem.....I planned on putting two wheels on one end anyways.....kind of like grills have on them..... cooldude

Before ya put the welder up, add some gussets to the legs.

You ask, what is a gusset?

Look here.

Looks like a reasonably good job you happen to be doing...much better than my first attempts with a HF tig that I bought at the surplus store for 10 bucks and put 76 bucks into the missing parts..like most, I was tending to run the bead to quickly..at any rate though practice hasn't made me perfect but definitely improved...keep on keepin on and you'll have yourself a lot of fun with it..

Hmmmm...without a better pic of it or getting to look at it up close, my best guess is a sparse stand of dormant common bermuda grass......with patches of clover in it...... Undecided

Stanley, It really looks great from here! You might want to tie in your bottom braces but not a must. After a while the smoke, slag, burns aren't bad... just don't burn your eyes -that's not fun! 2funny

Yeah.....RJ said I should add some gussets(braces) on the legs....it's pretty sturdy like it is now..even without the top attached....which should add even more rigidity..... cooldude
