I am leaking oil from my left fork.  I assume that it is a seal problem.  Am I right?  If so, is it possible to replace the seal without taking the whole fork apart?

you are right....and yes you need to take the fork down partway to replace both the seal and the dust seal.

There is a small chance that you've caught a bit of debris that's causing the leak.

If you'll run some 35mm film (left over negative) under the seal it may clean out the debris and stop the leaking.  You will get a fair amount of oil down the tube while you're working the film.
