Hey all…  Just got a ‘Recall’ notice from Sears, on a compressor I’ve had for almost 8 years.  I’m really good about filling out the warranty cards, and getting any purchases registered, so I got the notice.  In the recall, they cite an over heat/fire hazard, and say not to use the compressor, until it has been repaired.

Thought I’d post the info, just in case someone may have one that they purchased used, or never registered.

The recall applies to certain 15 gallon Craftsman compressors.  One Vertical model and six horizontal models.  Here is the information, as written in the recall I got;

Model #      Tank         Date of Manufcture

919.166440      15 gal Vertical      5/2004 – 3/2005
919-167240      15 gal Horizontal   9/2000 – 3/2003
919-167241      15 gal Horizontal   9/2002 – 12/2003
919-167242      15 gal Horizontal   7/2003 – 5/2005
919-167243      15 gal Horizontal   5/2004 – 1/2005
919-167250      15 gal Horizontal   12/2002 – 12/2003
919-167251      15 gal Horizontal   7/2003 – 8/2004

The model number and manufacture date can be found on the name plate, on the tank unit.

If your compressor is part of the above chart, call Sears at 1-888-279-8013, and tell them the model number and manufacture date.  They will confirm that it is part of the recall, and instruct you to take it to your nearest Sears.  They will replace the motor, and call you when it is ready to be picked up.

Might not be of interest to everyone, but if it saves a garage, and yer Valk (there, now it’s Valk related), it was worth the effort!
