Interstate trunk carpet

It looks like the previous owner glued some carpet in the trunk - bottom and sides - unless some came with carpet. I will be getting my rear speakers and wiring harness soon and need to run the wiring to the speakers. I guess I will  have to rip out the carpet to access where the wiring comes in from under the trunk and run wiring to the speakers. Any ideas or helpful hints. Thanks...

I don't think you will have to remove the carpet......

Because of an accident I have had the rear trunk on my IS apart several times... only wanted to do it once, but forgot to put the gasket around the trunk lock, so apart she came again!!!!!

The trunk bottom is 2 pieces.. the outer shell and the inner liner  remove the taillight, the trunk hinges, the mounting bolts and rubber grommets, and finally about 16-18 screws under the rim gasket and the liner will come out. If not , you can fish the wires between the 2 sections....  there is a good gap inside between the 2. There is a large (1") hole in the bottom of the outer shell about in the center. If you look at the parts fiche on HDL, it will give you an idea.....

Either way, you can get the wires through without removing the carpet...

Also I don't believe they were lined, you could get carpet mats for the bottom though.

I did a tail light mod and rear speaker wiring last winter.  Took trunk off bike and set it on a table and pulled up a chair to remove the inner liner.  Seems like there were about a hundred of them little screws under the rubber seal.  Not hard but try real hard to only take it apart once.  I took the longer method

I will have to look at mine, I thought that the wire ran up the outside of the trunk box
