Hey All,

Pulled the rear end for maintenance and I know that there was a slow leak in the rear tire.....

Was going to replace, but the tire still has 2-3000 miles left in it. I got the soap out and found the problem.. tiny pin-hole just off the centerline of the tire and in the meat... not one of the grooves...

My question is,  what options do you think I have? Ride-on? Have it patched( not plugged)?????

Any ideas would be great ,

Also, there is some play in the dampers.....  should there be any?

Good news is, still plenty of grease and hub splines are mint! Will be looking at axel and splines tomorrow.....

Any help would be great...

Thanks, Brad

Well, the right way is to have it patched. On the other hand if it's a slow leak and tiny puncture Ride-on will proobably do it. On the third hand plugging and Ride-on will definitely do it.
Though on the fourth hand I better not recommend anything other than replacing the tire.  cooldude

I've rode 2000 miles on a long weekend...If it was mine it would get a new tire now so I would'nt have to pull it all over again in a month or less....That's just me...It's your bike and your time and money.

I carry a Stop n Go tire plugger kit. With one of their plugs in the rear of a GoldWing, I pulled my tent trailer 2500 miles on a trip. Never lost any air. Hit 90 passing cars a few times. Your 3K miles might be several months or a few weeks. It's your call.

I agree with Joe.  The last half of a tire goes faster than the first time.  You could be well overestimating the mileage left on it.  Seems like all the distributors are running tire sales, get one now.

I agree with everyone (sort of).

I would get a new tire installed, and for what it costs, get this tire patched. Always nice to have an emergency spare in the garage. If the next one goes it might take a week or so to get another new one.

Check DennisKirk.com or JakeWilson.com . Those two have the best prices I have found and, when ordering from DK, I can get my tire next day with standard shipping.

I just bought a new front tire from my local dealer that price matched within $5 of what Dennis Kirk was charging. This was after quoting me a "discount" price $40 higher. It took longer to get the tire than if I'd ordered it myself, but it's nice to keep the money local.

Jake Wilson is a good source, as is HDL,  I would check the vendor supporters on this site first.  Hoser

MotorCycle Super Store is another place to go look for a tire.  I have had good luck with them.  AND I live close enough (80 miles) to go to their store in Medford, OR.   They will mount/balance the tire at no cost, if you take Wheel off the bike.
