98 Tourer here I don't know if the blanks are the same for all models.

Someone posted that a key blank DC-3 for a Mitsubishi will work. Said he got his at a Ace Hardware. I want to find things that will get me by on the road if there isn't a bike shop where I have a problem.
So I went to an Ace and the worker found me a DC-3 but said he couldn't cut it for me because it wasn't a match according to his list. I ask him if I buy the key will he try the cut that way I can't ask for my money back, he smiled and said OK. Cut that thing and I took it out and it worked in the ignition but not one saddlebag. I went back in and told him it worked but could he buff the edges a bit it's tight in one lock. He did and followed me back out to the bike this time he was curious.

My local lock shop in a town of 7000 had key blanks, without the plastic, for my '03 Standard.  I think it cost me about $3 for the blank and cutting.

I went the easy way when I got my 00 I/S...

Went to the local Honda shop and they made me copies...I think they were like $7.00 a piece, but looked just like the originals. One of them is zip tied somewhere on the bike, just in case......

Do you have a good locksmith in town?

If so, that is what he is paid for, to find the right blank and cut it.

I might be out in left field here, but the is 1 year in the interstate that has 2 different blanks.

So, I'd advice you to go to a locksmith and have him make them.

If in doubt, ride the bike over and test try the blank before he cuts it.

Hello locksmith...........   Make sure it is a well supplied mobile one.

When ya get them out, have 2 extras cut.  1 for your billfold in case of a emergency like this.   Also, never throw your keys in the truck, unlock the trunk and put the keys in your pocket.     Step-dad taught me that long ago......

For what it's worth, you can remove that trunk without opening it and drive it over to the local locksmith.  He'll be able to open the lock and make you a duplicate key while you're there.

A Mitsubishi DC3 blank will work perfect I've got several for my bikes...I give $1.09 out the door cut for them at Ace Hardware.Mine un-lock's forks, open's gas cap , saddlebags and trunk....I have the Mitsubishi DC3 cut blanks for all my bikes . When I posted on the other board I did'nt know you had locked up your key ....I thought you was just looking for a spare....Local Honda dealer get $17.00 for a blank and you pay up front and wait for it to come in  Undecided

These are from an older entry.

Valkyrie Key Blanks

Mitsubishi DC3
Curtis HD74
  ESP HD74
  Jet HD74
  JMA HOND 4l
  Silca HON39
  Star HN5
  Taylor X84
I got a few of the DC#'s made and ground the wide end down then put em in a chrome lug nut with JB weld. Works great and you can't see if if your not looking for it. Blends in with all the other chrome.

Just back from Ace, etc. Apparently, Mitsubishi keys are longer. How would you avoid bending or breaking the longer key?

Slightly different problem/question.  Got my router and the ignition key doesn't open the bags...  So I ordered two new "locks" from Honda for the bags and just figured I would get to carry two keys.  Well Honda can't or won't send two locks that have the same key, so right now I have 3!  Any ideas on how I could possibly consolidate? Local locksmiths can't adjust the tumblers for the bag locks. I don't really want to buy and change a working ignition, and at best that would get me down to two keys.  Honda claims they can't send me matching locks for my ignition key either...

I "believe" only one edge of the key engages the tumblers. If this is true, it's possible to machine two different profiles on a single key.

This is a DC-3 it's about 6mm (1/4") longer hasn't been a problem.

Check out Pinwall recyclers. They always have complete lock sets from totaled bikes on Ebay. They usually go for around $75-100. They are pretty stand up people to deal with as well.

I got a whole new lockset for my tourer... about $125 - don't remember exact cost... anywho... some of
the locks were a real puzzle to change, others were pretty easy... I futzed around with the bag locks
for a while without being able to get the old ones out and put the new ones in, and then I realized that
it was easy to take the guts out of them - so I've got the old lock body on my bags with new tumblers
and stuff...

Are you saying that you bought a set of bag locks and they don't match???

Find another locksmith.  I had my bag locks rekeyed to match my Standard ignition key.  As long as the key will go into the lock, a locksmith should be able to make the tumblers match the key.  You will need to remove the latches from the bags.

It cost me $12 each including a spare key.

The person working at the Key station was jiving me. The Mitsubishi blank he showed me was one-inch longer.

My key from the Lock Smith, not home depot, is an ilco X138 HD75. It's over all long than the OEM Honda key with the plastic.

I have one on my key chain, and one in my pocket I use for the bike. The one on the key chain is in my riding jacket, for the house and work and a spare.

that's what I tried my best to explain to Mr. KeyGuy....to no avail. "If I were to grind down the key's length, would you machine the same key blank for me?" He simply couldn't figure that part out. Finally gave up on the fellow. I have spares anyway.

I cannot find any locksmith around me to reset my tumblers to match my ignition key!  I do have two extra tumblers now that I ordered new ones from Honda. Anybody willing to have their magic locksmith key those to my spare ignition key?  Having three keys is absurd to me. I don't understand why Honda couldn't send me matching locks for the bags, or even let me give them my key number and send me locks to match that!!!  I'm all out of options locally it appears.

I'm halfway across the country from you, but if you don't find anyone closer you can send them to me and I'll make it happen.   Send me a PM if you need me and I'll give you an address.
