THROTTLE CABLES

I need to re-rout my throttle cables. Is it easier to disconnect at the twist grip or the carbs?

My fear is if I open the throttle side the switch and everything else will be a problem.

Once, when I had the throttle end loose for lubing, I discovered that the other ends comes
out without even trying... but probably not while there's tension on the cable... anywho...
if you take it off at the throttle end, a safe and pretty easy way to do it is to loosen your
handlebar risers (protect the tank, the bars might swoop down and put a dent in it!) and
move the bars to the left... then there's enough slack in the cable to easily remove it,
you can lube it while it is loose there... some good lube drizzled down from the top until
it starts coming out down at the carbs...

Hubcap, I need to disconnect both the shield and the wire inside in order to re-run them in a different location. In other words, I need to release one or the other ends completely and re-connect.

Yeah, I was probably running on too much, I do that a lot 

Anywho... the bidness about moving the handlebar over a little at the top to get  some slack in the
cable to get ready to lube does lead to having the top ends of the cables all-the-way disconnected -
just unscrew the throttle tube cover halves (is that the shield?) and unhook the ends... without
moving the handlebars over to the left I was unable to unhook the ends from the throttle tube...
After that, with no tension in the cables, the other end practically disconnects automatically...

Once you're done rerouting, make sure that the throttle does right at full lock, both sides...

Hope it works out... remember to protect your tank when you loosen the risers!

I'm thinking of replacing mine all together... Getting a little uncomfortable after breaking a choke cable that maybe those original push/pull cables are getting tired. :s

I tried releasing the cables at the throttle end but really had a problem on one of the cables so I went to the carb side and everything went well.

BUT, once I buttoned everything back up, the bike will not crank. I must have done something to the switch when I had the halves apart.

I am charging the battery just in case it was low, but I don't think that is going to help.

When I press the start button, all I hear is a clicking noise in the headlight nacell.

What the heck did I do???????????????This isn't good!

NEVER MIND! I made a really stupid mistake, I won't say how stupid, but it fired right up this morning.

Now that all of my mods are complete, there is SNOW on the ground again.

After I slid the bars over some, there was enough slack in my cables to slip the throttle tube off - once
it was off it was easy to get my cable ends loose... glad you got 'er done...
