Didn't Billy Lane come up with a hubless rim several years ago?

Yes.  I seem to recall him stating that he used a bearing from a helicopter in some way to accomplish this task.  (But that is from memory, so I could be way off here).

The hubless rims remind me of all the cars around here with "spinner" rims - but instead of spinning, the drivers lock them in place, so it just looks like the car is gliding down the road on a sheet of ice.

I think Billy Lane and the guy, Mike, from AMEN Choppers argue over who did it first, both claiming they did.  They went up against each other in a Biker Build Off.  Don't remember who won.

Interesting but doesn't do much for me. Don't think they will catch on for production use.

BTW, that bike in the first video needs a tune up... sounded awful, like it was only running on two cylinders!  2funny 2funny

Re:  the first video, it looks like the "do not exceed speed" is 15 mph.  I wonder if there is any practical benefit such as less unsprung weight.  Probably not, we would be seeing it on race bikes by now.

No benefit other than unusual looks.  The stationary inner race of the wheel needs to be supported by a fairly heavy duty mount.  That alone might increase unsprung weight.

Actually, the major concern with the idea, is that the speed of the bearing is MANY times faster, than a standard 2 or 3 inch bearing - MUCH further to travel. That being said, when something DOES get into there, at speed, it will self-destruct with amazing speed and force. Dont think I'D want to be on it, when that happened.

Sorta reminds me of the kid's ears, down at the local Speedy-Mart...

Yes, the linear speed of the rollers is much faster than a typical wheel bearing. The Jesse James bike had a filler strip around the gap between inner and outer races.  Might get some fine dust in there, but nothing big enough to lock it up.
