I ride alone 99% of the time...I've only had to ride folks on the back of the bike a few times.....I do pack the trunk on the I/S full when I go on a long ride, just not the same thing as having a passenger on the back..... I was wondering if the Progressive 412HD's would work ok instead of the pricier 440's??......and I can't remember if the OEM shocks are 12", 12.5", or 13" stock??....I hate to spend a lot more $$ for something that won't help me.....anything would beat the OEM's I have now with 84,000 miles on them...... I'm thinking that I also need to change out the two timing belts for piece of mind.....

The standard shock is 13". I have ran the 412HD on both my Standard and IS and they have done a good job. I have 11.5" on the Standard and 12" on my IS. for the money you can't go wrong.

I put 13" 440's on my Tourer (halfbreed) and wished I had put the 12 or 11 1/2's. David (Warlock)

Stanley, I have a pair of stock length 412's with around 12,000 miles on them. One of them started to leak so I took 'em off & put a set of I/S shocks back on. I did like the way they rode for the year they were on. Naturally they started to leak one month out of warranty! Anybody got a spare single 412 they want to part with??? BTW, they are the HD model.

So, if I ordered a 13" 412HD, then it'd probably be ok for the I/S since I don't ride 2 up?..... I'm not saying that anything is wrong with the OEM's, but surely 80,000+ miles and 11 yr old shocks couldn't be as nice as sone new ones?..... I was planning on measuring the OEM's from centerline to centerline of the bolt holes....just wasn't sure if the stock length is with them off the bike?....

The length of the shock is a preference it's the Heavy Duty part that you need for the added weight. I have not ran the 440's so I can't make a comparision but the 412's work well and I have had the ones on the black bike for four years with no trouble. I'm running darkside (205/55/16) with 11.5" shocks no problems. Odessa my I/S seen below with 11.5" 412's but I prefer the 12".

If you get 13s and can still reach the ground easily (I can reach the ground plenty easy, 30" inseam) you'll drag less than with shorter shocks...

I have 412's in Heavy Duty on mine, been on there for 3-4 years (I don't remember), but they have worked fine. Next time I replace them I will get the longer version so hopefully the dragging while riding 2 up will stop.

When I replaced my OEM shocks on my Standard/tour I went with the 440sHD, at 13". My inseam is 29". Long and short of it is 440HDs have far less spring sag than the stock 13" length Honda shocks. It took a bit to adjust to the added hight. If I had to do it again I would get the 440HD.in a 12 1/2". My original plan was for 2 up, pulling a cyclemate trailer. Wife messed up her back and can no longer ride with me. I now run the shocks at 2 turns out from the softest setting and I can still get the pegs to talk.

I put 11.5" on my standard ... 412s they are just fine and can flatfoot with room to spare @ 5'8" and 30 inseam.

I am 5'8" with a 30" inseam and I can flatfoot the I/S like it is......I'm leaning towards the 412HD's in the stock 13" length.....
