100 years ago today (29th of March, 1911) the M1911 pistol was adopted by the US Army. This incredible design has been in continuous service ever since. John Moses Browning was simply put... a FREAKING GENIUS!!!! I think I will go out and put a few rounds through mine to celebrate the milestone.

I have put more than a few rounds down range with a M1911. Thanks to the USMC I even got to shoot for free.

I like what a boss of mine used to say about the 1911. "I choose to carry God's own pistol, designed by God's own gun designer in God's chosen caliber."

P.S. My fav pistols are my Kimber and STI 1911s

My stand by is my full size Springfield. Its been a freaking solid gun. Still, I lust after the 9mm double stack Para (my idea of a IDPA ESP gamer gun) and the Para double stack .45ACP (again, my idea of an IDPA CDP gamer gun) as well. I would really like to build an open race gun in .40S&W too... Just because I want one

I love the 1911 dearly (Although for practical reasons I'll argue that time has moved on, I carry an XD and a bigger XD is by the bed)... I've got <Mumble mumble, in case the spousal unit ever reads this> 1911 pattern .45's... The really ironic thing? None of my America's Handgun guns were made in America... China, Brazil, Philippines, and other places...
I intend to remedy that this year... Pinching my pennies, wanna get a USGI WWII 1911, but those have gotten a bit dear, but... Really wanna get one somehow...

My MOST used MOST dependable pistol that I own is my .40 XD Tactical. I just loaded the 12,000th bullet for that gun. Its shot more counting the commercial ammo that has been through. It has broken an ejector in the past, but it has (im going to jinx myself here) never malfunctioned.

It's not a .45 (I own a kimber 1911 in .45), but it is based on the 1911. I am putting money down on one of these today: A Coonan .357 Magnum. Yes, it uses revolver cartridges... I have wanted one since I was 17, but they stopped making them quite a while ago. Well, they started back up in early 2010.

I dont have any guns. I dont believe in guns. Spoons made R.O'D fat and a higher force made her stupid. IF I had any guns a Colt 1911 would be at the top-o-the list. I would have fired cases and cases-o-ammo in the Navy and become quite proficient at it. I would love my 1911.It would be the favored gun in the safe, under the bed,in the saddlebag,on the hip and under the arm. Both arms. I would call it the " Laydowna$$hole"!

Mine is a 1942 WW2 1911A1 made by Ithica. Like new with German proofs. After the war it was issued to the German constabulary when we were helping them rebuild. I should probably try to get it valued, have noidea what its worth.

Dan Coonan seems like a real good guy and I am glad to finally get one of these beauties.

My Colt Model 80 Combat Elite .45 has become my favorite Lastly, I'll be adding Crimson Trace lasergrips - love the laser on the Glock. Lots of positive feedback online on the CT lasers. That was the first gun I ever bought as an adult, I always wanted that exact gun from the first day they released it. I found adding a recoil buffer to her makes it an absolute dream to shoot even for the new shooter. I would love to add the Crimson trace laser grips just cant swing the extra cash these days for that type of upgrade.

Yep! I love my Rock Island 1911! I got me one of those a couple years ago, that short 4" barrel sure makes that little honey LOUD, my brother in law and I picked up 2 of them when I took him to Texas for soem hunting a few years ago he got the Standard 5" G.I. model and I got the 4" Officer model, walked out the door for $605 if memory serves. I worked with a Guy that lived a few blocks from the factory and he said he was friends with one of the Armorers and they said it takes about 1,000 rounds for the R.I. to get all broke in and shoot well, Not sure but I have only put 200-300 through mine and it seems fine to me. Oh my handles are the plain Jane smooth wood handles.

Not knocking the Rock Island Armory 1911's, I've got one and it's a fine shooter , but unless the guy you worked with lived/lives overseas (Which I admit is fully possible), he didn't live a few blocks from the factory, they're made in the Philippines... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Island_Armory_1911_series

Sorry for any confusion I worked with him just a few years ago and he had only been in this country for a short while. Thanks for checking up on me though. P.S. I just looked and mine is actually the commander model not the Officers model. It is the 4' barrel with 8-Round magazine.
