I've noticed lately that alot of other Marines own valks. I wonder if we have something else in common besides wanting the best and being the best.(at least in our minds  ) How many Marines do we have out there? |

Above building last I knew was a receiving and sorting facility for the US Postal Service.

Sludge, Chesty was trying for the Medal of Honor, which he did not get by the way.
Several members in the Chosin were written up for medals, but no one got any, except hearts. Lot of those were given out, I waited till my 2nd tour to get mine. LOL.
Chesty wouldn't sign them.......
Dang spell checker anyway. My Chosin, was changed to Chosen. Corrected now.

Sry, we didnt. I had just come back from a float and recieved orders to HMT-204 to be an instructor. I checked out of HMM-264 (who went to Turkey for humanitarian relief) 3 days before Saddam invaded Kuwait. I was writing a course for CH-46 crewchiefs while that was going down. Saw my plane on CNN with my name still on it. I was NOT a happy camper. Never went to Pendleton either.  |

Yep that was the group he was with, I have a book with all the
the things he saw and went through.
My favorite story was when he was sitting in San Diago in 1941
and a squared jaw guy walked in with a green uniform and said you, you and
you come with me. You are now in the Marines. And that,s when the fun began.

Althought I appriciate that our fine politicians have decided to recognize the Vietnam Viet, kind late don't ya think. Now before all of you get your shorts on fire remember this, This is how "I" feel and my oppinion.
When peolpe want to thank me for my service, I am embarressed because for me I served because I was taught and felt that it was MY civic duty to my country as a citizen. The treatment when returning was abominal. Keep in mind those who are making the decisions today were the one's that marginalized the service of that generation.
I lost my best friend in the same fighting hole that I was in. Thirty percent of the 28 replacements that I was with never returned. We scream as a nation for 4,000 deaths in two wars when thousands died before us giving the ultimate sacrifice to this country.
Bitter feeling yes. Remorse no. A terrible waste of a generation for the political gains or failures of a country. And the sad part is that we haven't learned our lessons from these mistakes. we continue to send our young service people into harms way for what?
Again it's a feel good gesture. Sorry if i'm a sinick to this. but just about 41 years to late don't you think?

My dad was drafted during WW II, and he was in a room with about 75 men waiting to get tests shots and etc.
As they came down the line dad remarked that every so often 1 guy would go through a door and be gone.
He said, well, I found out what the deal was, every 7th one left and they became Marines. RIP dad, you did your job on Iwo.

I grew up in a generation in which many of us didn't question whether we would serve, but only which branch we would choose. I'm impressed with today's young men and women who choose to serve, but they seem to be the rare exception.
I'm in a way puzzled that none of my sons have chosen to serve.

Here's what I think, and yes, I don't know what I'm talking about...
Korea and Vietnam and the installation of tin-pot dictators in little countries all over the place were
all parts of the political machinations between the USA and Soviet Union that resulted in there
not being nuclear armageddon... a lot of sacrificing and suffering, but it could have turned out worse...
And I think the sudden explosion of tin-pot dictator removal that we're seeing is a result of
George Bush's War on Terror... I don't think Bush had a specific plan, just that what we are
seeing is a result of him/us/them stirring the pot...
As long as the Middle East remains a place of tyranny and despair and anger, it will continue to produce men and movements
that threaten the safety of America and our friends. So America is pursuing a forward strategy of freedom in the greater Middle East.

I'm in a small town of Ghent Ky right now. Moving next week to Monroe Mi for another project.
I spend a lot of time on the road as a Safety Professional and it gives me the opportunity to see much of this fine country. It is my hopes that when I can ride no more that while i'm sitting on the couch I don't say to myself "I wish I had gone there or done that".
Although I won't appologize for my last post I kinda mixed them up with the other that talked about the Vietnam Vet Day.
The Marines was my career in life. This profession now is a job.
But, I hope to get back west as much as possible and continue to enjoy this great land that we have.

Skills won't get rusty. They are talking 10 - 12 months on a construction project. Suppose to start April 18th. I live out of a 5th wheel travel trailer and it has a 10' garage on the back where I carry my 2006 Goldwing. Have trailer, have wing. As SmokinJoe states "You one riding sumbitch".
More than willing to ride while anyone especially VRCCers. Thanks for the offer. But first things first, I got a chance to go home for 8 - 10 days to spoil my grandchildren.
