The 4th is in custody

Man is a hero.

That makes 2 captains our kids can look up to in the last few months. The other took his plane into the Hudson if you recall.

Fantastic news !!!  Think it's about time that all countries get real tough with these pirates, blow them out of the water whenever they find them on open water in an act of piracy.

Need to put a half dozen B 52s over that POS town they were trying to get to and level it.  Then take a fleet of aircraft and take out EVERY boat from freighter to dingy along the coastline of Somalia in one fast hard hitting "statement of intent".
But our nation has become a world haven of pu$$ies.  Our president is bowing to Saudi kings, apologizing to the rest of the world for anything he thinks offended anyone.
So we gonna sit here and act like nothing happened.  I imagine Nobama is on the phone apologizing for killing 3 Somali nationals.

I'm sure Nobama will also offer during the phonecall to give the 3 familiies their own "stimulus package" to make up for killing the three.  Too bad there wasn't four.  I'm sure the SEALS didn't have him sighted in, or there would be.   Even my wife said they should have done this 3 days ago.  Thumbs up to the military !    cooldude  cooldude   cooldude

Wow...is it that hard to give our military credit for a mission well done, as well as the President who gave the go ahead for lethal force?  I love how everyone is an expert in such matters.  We should have done it 3 days ago?  There probably were many reasons why it was done at the proper time in the proper way.  No shortage of armchair quarterbacks here.

I think we all agree that we are glad it got done...We think the Captain is a hero and it is a shame there were only 3 kia. I hope they water board that sunna of allah and find out where is friends are and hunt them down...lets remember they had how many chance to surrender??? They made their bed...so now they can rot...Anyone remember Somalia back in the 90's??? we had a dummycrat as president then too...pulled out...afraid to use force...of any kind...Things have changed, times have changed...9-11 does anyone remember that day...people seem to forget, they came here and did what they did...they have to know that we will hunt them down and send them to meet allah as soon as we possible can. There is no reason why four idiots in a dingy equipped with a few AK 47's should keep the US Navy at bay for over I'd say... ohhhhh... about 10 minutes.... . I think the ones who said it should have been handled 3 or 4 days ago were correct. Good things never happen when a situation is allowed to fester for days. Your opinion may vary and all opinions are welcomed here. Our military did a magnificent job once they were given the high sign to do so.... the problem is that it took so long to get the high sign over a bunch of thugs who are terrorizing the high seas against some of the world's greatest super powers.  Perhaps, since this incident, they will think twice before attempting such attacks on ships that carry the Stars and Bars. Some confusion here, Doug.  We don't have any ships flying the stars and bars.  They lost some 140 years gone by.   Wink

I'm with Therapist on this one.  We are not privy to the information that our military and the chain of command, up to and including the commander in chief, have available to them.  We really don't know whether the delay was waiting for approval or waiting for the right situation to "take the shot" with the best chance of bringing the hostage away alive.

Two thumbs up for a successful end to the operation.

I'm for heavy handed dealing with pirates and thugs, but I'm not in favor of unreasonably risking the lives of American citizens in the process.

Ummm  I think the guys that took the shot are to applauded.  I think the Naval officer who called the shot should be applauded.  I think the Capt who put his life on the line should be applauded.
However when it comes to our President....and I use the term loosely.......I sincerely doubt he made ANY such order.  He does not have the guts.  I can only imagine he is contacting the pirates families with his 'profound apologies' for all the 'atrocities' every other president since Washington has done.  To include using nuclear bombs on Japan to end a war they started, etc.

Before you start something you need to look at the facts my friends.

I am sorry but I expect MORE from the leader of the free world.  A real president does not BOW to another government leader.  He does not apologize for any actions.  No one does more that this nation.  Excuse me you can think what you want.  Hell the guy cant make up his mind what religion he is.  When he was running for President he was Christian.  And now he is Muslim as he stated in Turkey this past week.
Ummm he isnt a president......he's more like a game show host.

So dont attack me guy unless you know what your talking about.  Keep your opinion and I will do the same.  Until I see this guy take a stand on something, I dont see anything here but a stuffed shirt.

sigh

This is why we dont see so many people posting anymore as in days gone by

nobody's mind is ever changed from a thread where this or that person is bashed.

We have a President. If we dont like him we can vote him out in 3 year and 7 months.

Till then he is the Commander of our Armed forces and sworn to protect the Constitution whether I like him, voted for him or not.

I didnt care for Bush bashing or Clinton bashing maybe I am just old fashioned that way

Lets just be happy no troops were lost or injured, the crew is safe and the bad guys are dead

I'm goin to bed. Hope all of you had a happy Easter.

I completely support the outcome of the situation, however, I was reading this morning where they think this may lead to a "retaliation" by the pirate groups who, up to now, have not harmed anyone when taking the ships.  The pirates may be more willing to use deadly force in the future.  Hopefully, the ships and the personel will be safe.

He was on our ship negotiating. If had been on the boat he might have been killed as well. kudos to the best military in the world for the killing of these so called pirates. Maybe these POSs might think twice before they try to hijack an American ship again. As far as them retaliating. I say bring it on. Our guys need the practice. On the subject of Obama goes I was suprised to hear he gave the ok to use force. I don't think he had a choice. I applaud him for making that call.

Both Willow and Therapist got it right, in my opinion.  Thank God for our military and its Commander-In-Chief for taking the only appropriate action.

It sure strikes me as strange that it was OK to bash GW Bush and it was OK to bash Bill Clinton.

But, bashing Obama is off limits.

He's the president, bashing him is what we American's do.

He doesn't get a free pass.

I said that I wouldn't bash Obama until he really screwed up.

And so far I haven't, of course the way he's going I don't think that I'll have to hold my tongue much longer.

As far as the Pirating thing, I don't know what Obama did or didn't do.

I am glad that the pirates are dead and the Captain is safe.

What I don't understand is with the situation being what it is why American merchant ships passing through that area can't have some type of protection or escort from the US Navy while passing through the area.

It seems to me that a couple of US Navy cruisers in the right place at the right time could be very effective at preventing the hijackers from taking control of any US merchant ships.

No one said Obama is off limits.  The issue isn't who is and who isn't off limits.  The issue is, the attitude of those on this site who feel it necessary to bite the Dem or Rep (depending on their personal choice) is always predictable, because those same people will find something wrong with the opposing party irregardless of whether that parties actions are correct or not correct.

Oss, said it best.  "We have a President. If we dont like him we can vote him out in 3 year and 7 months.  Till then he is the Commander of our Armed forces and sworn to protect the Constitution whether I like him, voted for him or not."

The rest of it (that being the bashing) serves no good purpose, creates no good friendships, and solves nothing.  It's like graffiti on the bathroom wall, clearly written by a narrow-minded, ill-thought out simpleton.

By the way, I got some miles in on the bike this weekend!!  Being from Michigan, that opportunity hasn't been available lately!!!

Guess I got out of practice...giving my opinion, that is. Think I'll save it for another day, another topic, been enough said on this one already. The delay makes pretty good sense to me. Imagine if you will the difficulty of making three simultaneous head shots from a moving ship into a small boat, both of which were moving with the waves and wind?

The way I read it they were towing the boat and had slowly gotten it within 100 yards before taking their shots. Our snipers are great rifleman with great equipment but 100 yards under those conditions would have been the equal of 600 or 700 hundred yards on dry land and maybe more. Then consider, all the snipers had to stay on target for who knows how many hours till all three bad guys could be neutralized at once. Amazing.

The shortcomings of our leaders and the company who sent those men into harms way without the means to defend themselves are easy to see but the military did an awesome job under some very difficult conditions.
