Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted, the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.

After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment.

The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing the Marine.

Now that was a well written Police report!

This was debunked back in December:

Not all anecdotes need to be true to have a good morale, nor to be entertaining.  As y ou have to admit, fables are entertaining, and no where NEAR true.

I fully agree that anecdotal stories, fables, legends, and fairy tales can be excellent teachers, as long as they are understood as such, and not disguised as factual.

This is a true story, I was there.

August 1953 Korea.  I was serving in a Medical Clearing Company north of the 38th parallel.  Our sister company, an Ambulance company, was down the road.  After the truce was signed, we were having trouble with Korean thieves coming into the compound trying to steal money and clothes, etc..  Orders from higher up, the 52nd Med Battalion, said we were not to harm these sob's in any way.

However, they came into the ambulance company once too often and fell down the large hill behind the compound, suffering multiple wounds and fractures.  Since we were Army, not Marines, the thieves were given a free ride in the Army ambulances to the ROK Army headquarters where they probably were treated to permanently relieve their pain.

However, the report that we had heard about the Turks having the same problem wasn't verified by me.  It was claimed that the Turks caught two of these thieves and hanged them at the entrance to their compound with a sign around their necks labeling them as thieves.

You might try to Google that one, Bobbo.

Nope I'm not worried about anything. At 83 years old, I've experienced being wrong quite a number of times and admitting it.  I also have been exposed to quite a few egotists and fools and can well recognise them.

Me worry, not really!.  One never has to worry about telling the truth.  Now I do worry about others, especially those that come quite close to calling a person a liar.

I'm very comfortable in my old wrinkled skin. Grin Grin Grin , you might try it yourself.

Well said.  I like the wisdom in your words as opposed to the condescension in Bobbo's.

Hey, I calls 'em as I sees 'em, without the sugar coating.  If this is condescending or egotistical, then so be it!

Remember, I was specifically called out on this one, and I responded, unlike a few others that shy away from confrontation.

Hmmm, you called my father an idiot and I am not going over the top in responding.  I must have matured some in my 42 years.  You should try it.

If your father is solo1, then you need to realize he challenged me, in a sarcastic way, to disprove his story.  My reply was a generalization, which he, and obviously you, took as a personal attack.  As you mature even further, you should concentrate on how to discern when you are being directly attacked instead of looking for someone to insult you.

Bobbo you appear to be very thin skinned.  I merely asked you if you wanted to verify a story that I couldn't vouch for.  You're very good on research engines.

However, you can take it any way that you want.  It wasn't meant to be sarcastic .  If you notice I didn't reply to your 'idiot' reference but I could've.

We'll let others on the board judge your response(s)

I won't reply any further to ANY of your comments..............EVER!

A thin skinned person is one who is easily offended.  If you review this thread, as well as others, you will realize that I'm not the thin skinned person in those conversations.  Like I said before, when I see BS, I sometimes call it out.  If you are offended by this, then you have the option to ignore my posts.  When you specifically name me in a post, you shouldn't be surprised that I might reply.

I dont have a horse in the race but I have a suggestion

All reading this post may take it in the spirit you must imagine it is intended

If someone puts up a post, assume that it has not been researched as one would hope the newspaper would check on its sources or you would a term paper. After all the poster may have simply read something that sounds interesting and in the spirit of sharing decided its easier to want to simply share it with our vrcc family that to do research on it.

If something sounds fishy, or you take insult personally by something you read, do what I do, send an email or PM the poster.

Personally I have sent more  than a few emails and PM's and sometimes I end up apologizing for blowing my stack over a perceived insult and sometimes I have received a sincere apology.

Many I of those I now consider dear friends became such after such private "talks" done in the privacy of our respective abodes, and of course we cant tell when someone is pulling our leg when we read unless there is a smiley face there in the post

Likewise many of my closest friends are those that in my younger years I had one or more physical altercations with (I used to have a bad temper) and some of those I got whipped pretty good and some went the other way, not as many lol as I was a small kid till 17 yrs  I dont do that any more since I got married to Bonnie.  She keeps me in line.

To those who delight in proving others wrong I would respectfully suggest the above method of private email.

And for the record, I sure hope the marines beat the crap out of the perpetrator and that the news left it out of the story and not that the story as snoped was wrong on its face

I appreciate your advise and anticipate using it in the future.

As for this particular story, Snopes, Google, or other search engines weren't used.  If you look at the arrest video and subsequent booking photos of this perp, you can clearly see he wasn't harmed.  He was easily getting into the back of a squad car sans broken bones.

Also, it's quite telling of the nature of this story, as the perp is named "Tyrone Jackson" instead of his real name, which is Tracey Attaway.
