Did you take the scenic route? Or maybe take a nap along the way?

Scenic route. I decided that Lufkin is quite nice this time of year, so I went to see it. Got a late start, so I returned late as well.

Rocketman is being modest. He demonstrated both Texas and VRCC hospitality to some of our friends from North Carolina when their alternator gave out. They managed to get back to Lufkin. Another member had a spare alternator which was picked up and delivered to Lufkin and an impromptu class in alternator exchange was given.

Good on 'ya, Mark. I just never heard of that problem, but I do acknowledge you as the Houston area "EXPERT" concerning alternators.

It was a fun detour. I hadn't spent enough time with Dave and Tom over the weekend, and I hadn't managed to meet Chip or his wife yet, so I had to go say hi.
I do seem to be getting faster at those alternator swaps. Maybe it was the lateness of the hour that reduced the gum-flapping portion of the swap. Dave nearly fell asleep on the curb. (:

Big thanks to Mike (Tinman) for the loaner alternator. It wouldn't have done much good to go up there and pull the old alt. if I didn't have a replacement to put in.

Rocketman and Rocketgirl are class people. I am very happy to say that I know them.
Sorry that I was unaware and unable to offer assistance.

Where to start... First, if Mark ever wants to change his handle to Superman, I'll second the motion! The line of the night goes to Chip. After the bike was put back together and charging normally (at midnight), he was trying to get Mark to, at the very least, accept reimbursement for gas money. Mark was having nothing of it. He simply said, "That's what we do. And, that's why you need to start a Chapter back home." Chip responded, "Nope, that's why I need to get my ace back to Texas!" For the record, I nearly fell asleep 3 times standing up while holding the flashlight for the folks doing the work. I did fall asleep for a wink or two in the chair...

GOTF was awesome for so many reasons. First, we loved the event at the Bakers and enjoyed meeting everyone and seeing the parade of bikes. But when we had the breakdown, we found out how fabulous the TX VRCC is. When the alternator on our 2000 I/S went out in Garrison, TX, (pop 844) on Sunday afternoon (when there are plenty of tow trucks and motorcycle parts available (ha)) our first call was to Disco, then to the AMA. Guess who came through for us -- that's right, Disco and BnBTom who back-tracked 40+ miles to help us trouble-shoot the problem. They hooked us up with Rocketman, who then drove from Houston to Lufkin on a Sunday night to help someone he didn't even know. This all is just more than we could have imagined. At the very least, we owe Disco, BnBTom and Rocketman so much. We hope to be able to return the kindness in some way... either to them or to another rider who gets stuck in any predicament.
Most of all, we learned how great you VRCC members are in TX. Anytime you are any where near us in NC, we have your back.
BTW, we outran the storms and rain to Atlanta and made it home right on time this afternoon.
Once again... you guys rock!! See you in Bellaire.

Glad it all worked out.. I was unaware until about 9 p.m. at night when I texted Disco to see if he was home yet... Much to my surprise, he said that they (and you) were still in Lufkin! I had a spare alt. in the garage, but I don't know how good it is (has ~16k on it). I guess I need to get it tested. MAN, you're right, you live too far away! Hay Jimmyt

Is there one in the DFW area? BTW, we outran the storms and rain to Atlanta and made it home right on time this afternoon. Glad you made it home and it was good seeing you again Chip and finally meet Lisa, and it would be better if y'all moved to TEXAS.

I just did what a lot of ya'll would have done if you had gotten the call. Chip and Lisa needed help, and I happened to be in the right place at the right time.
I am just really stoked that we were able to get him back on the road. I was walking on air all day Monday.
As for spare alternators: I have been pondering on a related concept that I will post soon.
