My Creed

I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be uncommon…if I can.

I seek opportunity…not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled
and dulled by having the state look after me.
I want to take a calculated risk;
to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.

I refuse to barter incentive for a dole.
I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed
existence to the stale calm of Utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence
nor my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any master
nor bend to any threat.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud
and unafraid; to think and act for myself;
enjoy the benefits of my creations
and to face the world boldly
and say, this I have done.

All this is what it means to be an
American.

On my graduation day from college, I was presented a 14" X 20" framed copy of this along with my diploma by the university.  It has always meant a lot to me and still hangs proudly in my home for all to see.  In these troubled times with shifting political ideas and decaying morals, it would behoove all of America if more of us would take these words to heart.  I only hope that it will mean as much to someone else as it has to me for all these many years...JTL

It should be recited each day in schools, along with the pledge of allegance.  My if children are taught to believe in themselves instead of government, we could all enjoy more of the fruits of our labor, and decide who we want to help out, rather than having our money stolen from us by people who are SUPPOSE to work for US.

Jtl, Thank you for posting those few words that defines a lost generations beliefs and character. May it echo in the backs of our minds so that we may once again become the nation that our fore-fathers dreamed of, and we once were.
