I have had several sets of Avon Venoms that lasted on averge of 9500 miles on the rear and about 18000 on the front. I went to the Darkside on the rear of my I/S with a Venom front. It seems yo be OK, but I have a second Valk.
On my 98 standard I purchased Metzler 880s because the Metzler rep. at an exibition convinced me the 880s were good for 14K minimum,......wrong. They were good for 10K per set (front & rear). Needless to say I'm somewhat disapoined that the front wore as quickly as the rear.
I just ordered a new set of Avon Cobras for my standard (Rat Rod) and I'm asking others what type of mileage others are getting from their Cobras.
Thank you for your responses.

Similar mileage to the Venom R's if kept properly inflated.

I'm only on my second Cobra rear, I replaced the first at 15,000 because of cupping. Probably had another 3,000 of tread remaining. I'm not easy on tires... Redline

I replaced both at the same time last year with Cobra's. This spring I replaced the rear with 12k miles on it (another Cobra) .... still had a little rubber left but was cupped REALLY bad. The front still looks good at 12k and no cupping at all .... I might be able to squeak out another 4k-5k out of it !?!
I run 40 psi in front and 45 psi rear .... religiously

Haven't been able to get full mileage out of ANY rear tire because of NAILS!!! Kim's Valk has 11K on a rear Cobra & still looks 75-80% new. We'll see...... I did get 16-17K out of Avons, both Venom & Cobra on the front.

I might add that the rear tire that I replaced (Cobra) had 3500 miles of pulling a trailer out to Idaho last year with a passenger so I'm sure that didn't help with the wear factor ....

My Avon Venoms (severa sets) always delivered between 18 & 20K on the rear and 28 to 30K on the front. I run 38/42 cold PSI on my '97 Tourer. I now have my first Cobra's. The front is still in very good shape with 9K and the rear still has about 2K "safe" miles (befroe reaching the wear bars, after delivering 19K.

I got two seasons out of the front Cobra which had 41,000km. I also changed the rear which had 22,000km on it. The rear actually had about 1/4 tread life left but wanted two new fresh tires to start out with. I am keeping the rear for a spare.

My first Avon "Tyre" on the rear was well travelled at 14,000 and looking to get another 5K on the front "Tyre"

I only got 8,500 miles out of my Cobra rear by the time it had some odd wear patterns. The tread was nearly all gone in some spots with lots of tread in others. The front lasted close to 15K and probably would have made 17K, but I replaced it at the beginning of this season. I've had great luck with my Metzlers and won't be switching to anything else from now on.

george ------you`re riding too hard --i`ve got 16,000 on my rear venom ( time to replace though , usual 3 inch flat spot down the center ) on my `99 standard. 10,000 on the front , so far . stopped using metzlers after one developed a goose egg on sidewall. tires filled with nitrogen , don`t know if that helped but could`nt hurt--- frank s.

Avon Venom Rear @ 9k mi. Cobra looked a little better @ 9k mi but was still pretty worn out. Avon Venom Front @ 18k mi. The Cobra that replaced it looked about the same @ 18k mi.

fsimpson (Frank) Great to see you posting on this board. We need to get together next Bike Week for some bench racing and telling of "tall tales". And maybe being an ABATE officer, they'll let me in the ABATE campground. We are going to stay in Flagler Beach next year, just north of the "Loop".
