Well, boyz & galz there's this Best Western Plus motel right on the edge of Lake Guntersville smack inside the town of the same name in northeastern Bama. It's a nice motel, with a full restaurant and a lounge on premises. Napper and I have partied there before, and we both recommend it... In fact, we're gonna show it to two other couples this weekend. Naturally we'd be waaay more'n proud if any others were to join us, too. We're gonna meet up in Titus (just north of Mongomery, AL) at Tim & Sherry's Luck 7 Ranch, then KSU at 10am heading towards Decatur, AL. See, I have this tradition of eating a CF Penn hamburger every calender year, and I ain't been there for that purpose this year yet. This all began in June 1962 when my family moved to Decatur... and well... the string is still unbroken for me. From Decatur, we'll head on over to Guntersville. We're figurin' to party some Sat'dy evenin', then return to LA (lower Alabama) Sunday... Anybody interested, let us know. We can meet-up there or anywhere along the way... Company is always welcome... http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/selectHotel.doDDT

That is a beautiful area too! Used to be a world war one museum for planes and such there but I believe it is closed now. Wish I could make it! Dubs

Dubs,
I don't know about a muesum of that sort, but the lake and surrounding mountains are beautiful, the beer is cold, and the hospitality is warm, southern style. Plus, the bunch I'll be with are particulary nice folk... there'll be three Valks and two BMWs this trip so far... Shucks, just come on down anyhow... first round or two will be on me... You and I have a few things to discuss.

DDT, I'm working in the office this morning and will be meeting friends to sell my Vulcan 1500 this afternoon. We had one heck of a lot of rain last night. The wind is blowing and the sun is shining right now so the roads should be dry before long. Although I can't make this ride, keep me posted on future rides; surely we can make a ride together this year. You going to Inzane this year? You could meet up with The Wild Bunch" and ride up together. Dubs

Sold the Vulcan yesterday. The guy absolutely loves it. I'm glad it went to a good home. How did the Guntersville ride go? The wind was blowing hard yesterday. I rode the Valk back over to Maryville with the guy that bought the Vulcan. Just wanted to see and hear it on the road one more time. A cold day with wind that tried to move us around constantly. I hope your weather was better. Dubs

the ride up on Saturday was a wee bit chilly....but we survived. Ate one of those famous CF Penn burgers and survived that too (it's a deep fried burger as best i can tell!). the ride back Sunday was gorgeous with perfect weather. We went by Little River Canyon...and the falls were flowing more water than i'd ever seen before! We have had quite a bit of rain lately....so the falls were in full force. We also drove along the shores of Lake Guntersville as well as Lake Weiss. We saw several Valks. One Black Valk staying at the hotel. I spoke with him....from TN. he said he didn't know of the VRCC or the board???????????????????? Saw another Interstate valk trike at the falls. Spoke with her...from Rhome, GA. Again....VRCC what? board what? That always amazes me somewhat. I gave her one of my biker businees cards and gave her the board address. Saw a red and white Valk on Saturday going "the other way" ...can't remember if it was on 231 or 67....on the way to Decatur. looked like they had Cobra pipes. again, no idea who it was. and finally, saw a Black Interstate Valk trike in Piedmont...stopped at a gas station. Again, no idea who it was.... that's a lot of Valks for one weekend (not to mention the three in our group!). We'll be going back to that hotel sometime...right on the lake...beautiful view....great ride leaving the lake heading north....

Good ride report, Tim! Sorry ya missed us, Dubs. Yeah, there will be 'the next Guntersville Ride'... Napper and I really like visiting up there, and the two couples with us seemed quite willing to return with us... To Guntersville, that is... they were unusually vague about the prospects of ever going to CF Penn's with me again... Oh well, it's one of those things that you either instantly like or hate... no middle ground.
Well Tim, I think you understated the 'wee bit chilly' weather on the way up!!! Man, I rarely ever miss the weather guess that much!!! I actually left my house with the vents on my helmet open, as well as the two vents on the rear of my leather jacket. Napper and I both left our chaps at home. My thinking was that soon enough I'd be opening the two pairs of front vents on my jacket, possibly even having to remove it and find a place to pack it... I did have a female-person aboard, and even though it was for just one night away... well, you know...
Actually, we did have sufficient room for extra storage, I was just foolin' around with that crack about Napper. She's become quite 'road ready' in every way, and she has particularly amazed me with her ability to pack sparingly... Sorry, babe...
Well, by the time we'd met up with the first of our group and topped off our tanks, I closed the vents on helemt and jacket that were open. Even though the sun was out, for some reason it wasn't doing its job as expected. We met up with Tim & Sherry, then proceeded on our merry way in earnest. We stopped about an hour or so later, and Tim announced that since the sun had disappeared behind much overcast, the temperature had dropped 7 degrees from when we'd left his place!!! I added a scarf, Napper doned her rainsuit, Tim & Sherry put on their chaps, Susy had already put her jacket liner in, and poor ol' Jim, well... he was wearing his stuff already.
Sunday was another matter entirely! It was like what we'd expected for both days, and most pleasant all the way back. And then there was the visit to CF Penn's...
Tim understated that little adventure also. Let me just say that I will be continuing my annual pilgrimage there, and Napper will probly continue accompanying me... but not eating another burger (she didn't this year either... had her first and only one last summer). I'm figuring that will in all liklihood be a one bike parade... No problem with that for me... I have ridden a few miles solo and learned I can handle it just fine...
So, Dubs and anyone else, I hope you do join us on our next one... If past truly is prologue, there's sure to be some unexpected adventures that will make for some fun conversation around a fire pit someday...

Sorry you missed it too, BR... It occured to me we actually might get to meet on this one. Oh well, there'll be other times, like you said. Judging from the volumn and content of your posts on here, it's obvious you have found yer place, and ya like bein' here. Good! I figured you would... Had any big adventures on your Valk yet? Got any planned? Cheaha? Fall Color Ride? See ya down the road one of these days...

Wife's health is not good, so overnights are not in the cards for the near future. However, we have family in Knoxville and I would like to make one of Smokin' Joe's rides while my bride stays with our daughter, son-in-law and the granddaughters. Hope I can make that happen soon.
