Planning on riding the Four corners and over the Rockies in mid June. My VTX has an altitude adjustment when riding over 6000 feet. Anything similar on the Valkyrie?

No. Just run low octane fuel and you will be fine.

It can be adjusted for high altitudes, but is not recommended for short vacation riding in high altitudes. Not to worry, it will not let you down, high or low altitude.

You yourself will need more of a altitude adjustment than what the Valk will need.
MGM has been all over those little ground hog holes and has not had a problem. I got around Frisco for InZane and I run out of air several times. Then discovered I have COPD, or some damn thing like that. So now I wear O2 24/7. and on a 40' leash.

There is an adjustment in the shop manual, but for a short ride, do not do anything. If you lived there, you might want to.

CV carburetors have a sort of self adjustment property.
At higher altitudes a normal carburetor tends to run rich because of the less dense air but the CV carburetor due to the way the slide is raised will not raise the slide as much because of the less dense air and the result is less gas going into the motor.
There are other factors also involved due to less atmospheric pressure but these are the same for all carburetors.

I live at 4500'. Ride a lot between 1000' and 6000', no adjustments have been made to the Carbs. I have ridden over several 9000' passes. I do notice a reduction in power, but then have noticed the same reduction in a 4 wheel vehicle. Relax and enjoy the ride, but be aware of power loss due to the elevation.

Looks like it won't be an issue.....plenty of 86octane available out there and thanks for the words on the CV carbs....I thought they self regulated to some extent based on BP......me thinks a clean (new) airfilter will also help get more air into the mix......thanks to all for their input. CB

If you want more air into the old girl, go to BigBF's site and order his disk and longer bolt for the front of the gas tank. I've had one from about day one. I'd put a nut under it and his chrome disk looked a lot better so I changed it out. http://bigbf.com/product_sale/

Took a trip out to Colorado last Summer for 16 days and the only thing I noticed at altitude was my idle dropped. Adjusted it up while there, then re-adjusted when I got back. Fantastic area to ride

I've only had mine up to 14,130 feet. It ran OK as long as you didn't use much throttle. Redline

I, too, have been up to 14,130, and yes, the altitude is noticeable up there, but it's only noticeable in that you don't have as much reserve power. Of course, you're not likely to be doing any drag racing on those 14k ft. roads anyway. We hit 14k, two up, fully loaded for travel, and it never gave me a problem. She just didn't tear out of the turns like I know she's capable of.
At 6k, though, you'll never notice it.
