I'm looking for a high quality sheepskin cover for my tourer. I'm tired of the sore ass after riding for a few hours so could you guys offer a fellow rider advice on what brand and where to purchase one and if it will even help or is there some better alternative other than the day long seat which is too late to think about now since riding season is here.

We've had a set of them for years. The hotter the weather the more a sheep skin helps you stay comfortable. With an Ultimate seat and a good sheep skin you don't need to stop because of a sore rear. Least that's how it works for me. This is where we bought ours. http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com/servlet/StoreFront

i bought mine at a goldwing dealer. just a uncut sheepskin, no attachments, paid 75-80 dollars i think have had it for 4-5- years. make a huge difference.
like being able to just roll it up and stuff into saddle bag during a rain or into the motel room at night.
comb it once in a while to keep it fluffy.

Ikea sells them also for about $20 (the uncut full skins). That with a few safety pins and strip of elastic and your in business on the cheap.

+1 on alaska leather. i'm on my 2nd one, first one lasted about 8 years. i prefer the short nap wool of the alaska leather verses the full length wool nap. just my personal preference.

I spent the summer of '05 living in Albuquerque. Dragonrider2 and I did many day rides together back then (thanks again Kathryn!!!), and she always had a sheepskin on her Valk seat. I'd never really considered one, as I just figured they were another novelty item with little actual value that bikers add to their rides... We were stopped for gas and a whiz break one day when curiosity finally overcame me, and I asked her if it really made any difference. She said it truly did... and when I came back out from that second reason for our stop, her sheepskin was lying on top of my seat. Completely ambivilent about it, I went ahead and attached it to my ride, since she'd made such a nice gesture...
I rode out that tank of gas using her seat cover... and ordered one for myself that evening when I returned to my apartment! Like many, I ordered it from Alaska Leather, but that really isn't very important, IMHO... although prices do vary, so shoppong around is a good idea. Anyway, I was very happy with the product, most pleased with the customer service and overall treatment by the vendor, and I used that skin for many, many tush-pleasin' miles. I got my second one this past summer, as the first was on its last leg...
One word of advice: I don't hesitate to wash mine in the washing machine, but I recommend air drying and NOT using a clothes dryer!!! My first one shrank up a bit on me before I figured that out... Go ahead and get one, amigo, yer fanny will thank ya...

Got our 1st set from Misty Mountain Sheep works from the Ozarks. They had some cut for the Valk already out in Sturgis. Had then for a few years and we got a full hide in Deadwood last year for $50 cause they were going out of bussiness. Full hide is nice cause its fast to take off esp if it rains. Our others have elastic for the seat and some elastc that goes around the shocks for support. I do carry a brush to fluff them up at stops.

I don't know if it still works, but for a long time you could get a discount by entering "DEADSHEEP" in the coupon section.
And by the way, I love my cover from them.

I was at Wisconsin state fair sheep barn last year. In the middle of the barn there is a sheep skin store. I found a small piece that will fit both seats for $40. Great Deal. Just look around at your local state fair this summer and you might find a great deal.

John, I ordered the X- large buttpad deluxe, 18.5 X 20.5. The large is 18 X 18, after measuring the I/S seat I thought this would be better, both for the seat and my seat. I also ordered a brush and nose strap, the total cost including shipping was $89.13.

I just ordered on for my Valk seat. They recommended the large 18" by 18" one. Can't wait to use it although the std. Valk tourer seat is v ery comfortable for me. This will come in handy on the way to Inzane! Dubs

I don't know about comfortable; I haven't been riding long enough to really tell, but it will surely keep your butt dry.
Got mine at Ikea, $29.95. Cut a slit and sewed on velcro to hook around the Utopia and just tuck the front under the nose of the seat. I don't go out of town without it. If it rains, the skin is in the trunk for later. Fred.

Last year, on my way back from Inzane, my coulee started burning!! I had about another 100 miles to go, so I stopped to get gas, pulled out a long sleeve shirt, folded it up and sat on it. With in about 10 miles it was an incredible improvement!! I believe that ANYTHING is better than just a pair of jeans and a stock cycle seat. If I ever go on a long trip, I bring along a towel. Sure, itās not as stylish as a furry black dead animal skin, but it works for me!!

Kendall, you can get them with stretchy cord to go under the seat, or like mine, just toss it on and let my ass hold it there. I'll see if I can find a picture of it. PS: Mine covers both seats and has a hole in it for the backrest. If solo, I just let it flap if it so desires. If it does flap, it isn't very much.

I ordered the extra large from Alaska Leather. Fits the stock 2002 seat perfect, as if it was custom made for it. It has a strap under the front nose and a strap with quick disconnects under the widest part of the seat. The front strap is nice if you, like me, stand up on the pegs occationally, don't have to worry about the skin blowing off. http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com/servlet/the-8/Sheepskin-Motorcycle-Seat-Cover%2C/DetailRedline

I ordered in the Alaska Leather cover last week, but we have a member in Dallas (Speedo) who bought one of those astro-turf door mats and cut it to fit his seat and says it is great as well and only cost $5. He puts it on the seat and then sits on it to hold it in place and I guess it works for him. Just another idea - I think the sheepskin is the way to go and wanted to try it before the trip to Michigan.

I guess I am the odd man out here - I bought one a couple years back when we were riding through the sturgis area on a 1500 goldwing. I rode up to sturgis without one and rode back with one. I did not care for it at all. It made me feel like I was sitting much higher in the seat than was comfortable, it would slide and get bunched up beneath me, all in all I just never liked it and gave it to a friend. I never tried one on a Valk but I don't think I'll be investing in another again.

I posted earlier that I ordered a skin from Alaska Leathers on Saturday evening and saved a few dollars by using DEADSHEEP as the discount code.
Well it arrived at my office today in Illinois after ordering it two days ago. I did pay for 2 day delivery because I'm leaving on a trip, but I ordered it on a Saturday evening.
I expected it by Wednesday, definately not today.

Just now ordered mine - a large in natural light. I don't have any long trips planned, yet, but I think this may help keep my tender baby behind dry this summer, so I don't develop a severe case of "monkey butt"!
