I go to school here. I'm an older guy trying to make my way through school.

This kid decided to jump off the overpass and kill himself. It's pretty upsetting, because I know I've probably met him, I probably have a class or two with him. It's not that big a school and our majors are the same.

Makes you think that maybe a conversation or something could have changed this outcome. What makes an 18 year old, in a great school, with a bright future decide to do this? Hard to imagine. Lots of bad stuff seems to be happening lately, but when it happens to somebody like this who really didn't even get a chance to start it's very sad. Maybe I'm getting more sentimental with the new kid... dunno.

I don't know whether I'm more concerned that maybe I could have done something, or that I didn't even know his name. I'm gonna make more of an effort in the future.

I had a co-worker commit suicide several years ago.

I'd worked with him for nearly 20 years.

Myself and many of my other co-workers had the same thoughts that you've expressed.

The bottom line is that if someone is serious about suicide they won't reach out to anyone.

However that doesn't prevent those left behind from wishing that they had.
