Just had the tire mounted on the rear wheel and the tech made sure to point out how far the wheel sits inside of the tire.  I posted the concern on the tech board and Dan Meyer pointed out that many newer tires fit this way to protect the wheel, etc.  He also told me that the width of our wheel is 5".  The tire is approved for a width of 5.5" to 7.5".  My concern is that the tire bead sitting in the wheel is not enough.  Has anyone running this tire/size had any issues?

Thanks,
G

I run that size in General Altimax.  No issues.  I think it is normal.  Any pics?  If I understand correctly, the tire sticks out some just outside of the wheel?  Like the wheel should cover more of the tire?

G-Man,
That is the same tire and size that I am running and I have had no problem.  We really need a picture to fully grasp what you are concerned about.  If you have trouble posting a pic on the website, send some pics to me through e-mail and I will look at them and post for others to view as well.

i was wondering if anyone has used this good year tire. i posted the question on the tech board, but more people were interested in trying to save my life by saying it's dangerous, then giving an opion of it.

i like the looks of the tire. i went after strictly tread design when i got mine. it was a hankook.
they dont make the tire any more, but if i go after another one, this may be it. didnt give a knowing opinion, jsut that i like the looks.
i ride for safety also, there are different opinions on D.S. i know that the way i ride, i will go back to another CT if the one i have ever wears out. i put it on at 69k and now have 85k and is still looks, handles and performs too good not to tyr again. i put michelin hydroedge on my jetta, and really like to looks of them also. they handle very well on the car and would probably do the job well on the bike. but if it gets down to a couple, i will go with this one just for tread looks.

Alph, just ignore MarkT.  He THINKS he is the be all and end all when it comes to Valks.  He loves to hijack threads then gets ticked if you call him on it.

Try the Darksiders Forum, http://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/.  They've got guys on there riding all kinds of different bikes with different tires.  When I was first getting into thinking about running a CT I found out a lot of guys were running Toyo Proxes so I tried it and like it.  Ask them your question.  Someone there might be running it.

Marty

BTW, I've been told by someone EXTREMELY reliable that MarkT proposed pinching off the vacuum nipples on the intake tubes till someone asked him how he was going to sync his carbs.

Got a cross to bear Hero?  I HAVE been a resource for this community since before it was a club.  Joined the third day it was instituted, but signup was so intense I still got member #437. A bit lower than yours. Was the first "contributing editor".  Was invited by Oz to co-edit it with him, but I declined as I was too busy building Valkyrie exhausts and other parts.  Lamont accepted the position instead. I don't hijack threads.  That's not what you see on that thread on the tech board, but a response to another hijack.  Here you are attacking me.  And also on the similar thread. Your attacks here aren't hijacks, as well as violations of board policy?  Lastly - yeah I closed off the nipples.  They don't leak, and the bike still doesn't need carb balancing, after I checked it twice and they were dead on both times.  Runs like a top and plugs read perfect.  But I can still re-install a nipple set if I need to sync them.  Apparently a very rarely needed tune, as my bike has NEVER needed it in 13 years.  Shees - that was what - SIX YEARS AGO?  At Least.  Kinda fishin for something to dis me, aren't you?  How many Valkyrie tech articles have you written?  None?  Your jealousy is showin...

I'm on my second GYTT, over 21,000 on it and plenty left. I'm going to
Shady Valley next week and drag the pegs. I MIGHT try a different tire
next time...either the General Altimax or the Michelin Hydroedge. I've
got until winter to decide. cooldude

Goodyear TT 205/60-16 was the first car tire I tried.  Loved it and got 37,000 miles out of it.

Never looked back.

I beleive the TT is designed that way to protect car wheels from cagers driving over the edges of curbs and damaging the wheels. I think that feature of the tire is mentioned in the sales blurb somewhere. I've worn out 2 of them, got about 21,000 out of each one.

They hang onto to the road like cats claws in carpet.

Got to back Mark on the intakes. I removed all my nipples and install bolts with fingernail polish. Very easy to remove and install nipples if I need to syn carbs. That way don't worry about any leaks from cracked rubber nipples. Of course I do like my car tires and they are not for everybody. Each their own, as long as we ride.

Tires are religion aren't they LOL! Cheesy

Lots of emotional investment in them...not sure why. Oil's the same way too.

Human nature I guess, since for the most part, the merits or disadvantages of any non-defective tire or oil are very subjective. We seldom "measure" them scientifically. Not surprising, they hold up to our use and abuse and we've got riding to do.

I don't "like" certain tires (or oils) and I don't run them. I generally have a good reason for this.

Everybody else is the same way, and our "likes" and reasons don't always come from the same criteria or place.

Gotta love a lively discussion though.

Don't worry about getting "tired" of this subject though...presidential election season starts next month...

I have one of these tires in my shed that was given to me by a friend. His buddy tried it and it rubbed pretty bad.  It is quite a bit wider than the Falken Ziex 512 205/65/16 that I took off my bike. It's a 205/55/16.  It's a nice looking tire, but I don't care for the lower profile for my own use.  The bead is damaged on this one anyway, so I wouldn't even think of trying it, but when I went to get it he told me is was a triple tread.  I didn't notice the damage till I got it home.

Anyone need a tire swing?  Smiley

Thank you all, my Valkyrie Brothers, for alleviating my concerns.  Here's a better pic of what I was trying to explain:

When I saw that "shelf" sticking out, and the tech made a big deal about it and made me sign a waiver, I got nervous.   crazy2

Yeah, now the battery is shot.  Rode it to Houston for GOTF, and back.  No problem.  Sits in the garage a week, and it is dead.  Tried charging, no go. I just ordered one of the H models of the Yousa battery, the one with 240cca instead of the 200.  Will need to wait a few days for it to arrive.

Some of the high performance tires have a built in wheel guard The edge that you are seeing is to protect the wheel if it hits a curb.
