I have searched the older forum and found a little about extending the speedo cable but did not find too much on the rest of the wiring....has anyone done this recently to know if any of the cable extensions are still available or can provide any advice on lengthening the wiring for the speedo and tach...looking to move them to a HD fairing I have with the inner fairing...
THanks in advance

Just bought this to extend my speedo . I have it in a fairing and this gave me enough extra length to take the tension off of it.

Fit perfectly I got the 10 inch but could have gotten by with less.
I like the 10 inch because it put the connection just below the bottom of the fairing so if I need to remove the fairing or do anything It acts as a quick release and I dont have to open the fairing up to get to it.

I did a speed cable extension [8"] as tearlesstom did.
Since your mounting in a fairing a 10" extension may not be enough. You may need to replace the entire cable. Dry fit measure is your friend.

I moved mine to the bars with homemade brackets about 4 years ago.
Between the speedo & tach there are 21 [+/- my memory] electrical leads. 17 or so are for the tach. I soldered in extensions with individual shrink tube covers & a large shrink tube to protect all.
Don't forget to fish on all your tubing before you solder.

I was too lazy/cheap to buy 17 different wire colors and did mine all in red. Talk about confusing, tag your leads so you know what's what!

Really like what you did there.  Nice.  I like how you have your XM and GPS mounted.
Also what are items #1,2,& 3 on the left handle bar from left to right.

You can see where mine are mounted inside the fairing and for me the 10 inch was more than enough. I could have gotten by with less but I like how it could disconnect it from the outside.
I made all the electrical connections quick release so I can pull the fairing off pretty easily by unplugging the electrical from inside the headlight housing, unscrew the speedo cable extension and off it comes.

If you need more these are made where you can tie two or more together if needed.

I couldn't find a longer one piece cable by itself not knowing the specifics of it.

I got the fairing from this guy.   http://recklessmotorcycles.com

I got it off of ebay, made for a Road King.  unfinished I think I paid either $225 or $250. Same as what he sells on his site for double +.  It came with a primer finish.

The screen is the 5 inch. I also have the 8 inch that I use more for cold weather.

My total cost which was the fairing $250.  paint $250 ( my labor)  Radio, speakers, wiring, and misc was about $250 so about $750. total but a lot of my time which is not included.
