Changed my oil today form M1 4t to M1 15w-50. I immediately noticed noticed more valve clatter and the fans kick on sooner and more often. Shifts are still as clunky as ever. Planned on using the Rotella T6, but they were outta jugs and only had 2 qts., so went with the M1. Anyone else notice this with the 15-50?

I have not had the same observation as you but I did notice when going from Rotella 5W40 synthetic to Mobil 1 10W40 4T racing oil things got quieter. Shifting was slightly smoother but a very small difference. This is at 100K miles with my '97. Still have the Rotella 5W40 T-6 in the other 2 Valks which have way less miles. Probably will keep the Rotella in those two. Not enough of an improvement to warrant the extra cost of the Mobil 1 4T oil.

I went from M1 4t to Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 and my engine got real noisy.  At the next oil change I went to M1 15W50 and it quietened down.

Hmmm....
I was talking to a oil tech last month from Shell, he had mentioned that a person can use an oil that is too heavy.

Oil to thick:
"can actually cause the motor to run warmer (which lessons the capacity of the coolant system),
lessen the lubrication in the top end,
cause more wear on startup than a lower viscosity oil".

Oil to thin: ie 5w20
"great for top end but not good for the bottom end"

He also said:
"we are just fine to run a 5w oil, because it's just the cold flow viscosity". I use 5w-40 Rotella synthetic and have for quite a while. He said that it would be a good oil for the Valks. I didn't like the dino oil when I used it once.
Just sumin ta think about. Smiley

Never noticed any noise with my bike with any oil. I imagine the thicker oil would create more friction and cause the bike to overheat easier but probably not enough to notice. I know my briggs and stratton runs a lot better when I went from 40 regular to 30 synthetic

I have run Silkolene 10 40 in my Valk since I had it. In the winter a little noisy till it warmed up. prolly should have had 5w in it. I am going to Mobil 1 4t 15 40 this week. I will see if theres any difference. I am going to bet there isn't except for price. Oreillys puts the mobil 1 on sale every now and them for $8 a qt. Silkolene is 11-12 and have to order it.
I have ran mobil 1 in my V65 Magna most of the time. I have tried other oils from semi to full syn. with a couple different brands. the mobil 1 always seems to run the quietest and shift smoother than anything else.
