that is a verbatim quote from my body to me. my chiropractor back in ORYGUN told me to listen to my body and I think that's what I'm hearing. driving truck has blossomed my weight up 30 pounds, not that I cared much but recently I have started to sprain/strain my lower extremities. so I decided I'm going to try an lose at least 30. the first thing I've done is eliminate nearly ALL fast food out of my diet, that's the first step and all it involves is a lil' will power. doing this for two weeks now and have lost about 5-7 lbs, depending on the time of day and if I've eaten breakfast. 10-14 lbs a month I'll be happy in no time....

I've been down that same road myself. A few years of gravitational pull from the steering wheel and i was up a few pounds myself. Ditching the fast food helped ALOT, switching from pop to water helped too. Good Luck.

If you want a big head start, reducing or removing excessive carbs from your diet will result in a drop of several pounds.
General rule of thumb is if it's white (white bread, potatoes, bleached flour pasta, etc.) it's likely not good for you.

I gained 5 pounds on a low fat diet and then lost 47 pounds on a low carb diet and felt much better to boot.

I've found that if you start to eat something and it tastes good, Spit it out! You'll gain weight. Really, cutting carbs seems to work best for me. Draw back is that in six months you'll kill for a biscuit.

One real good way to lose weight and it doesn't cost ya a dime.
Get off your dead arse and walk. Start at a mile and then work up.
My brother was setting on 320# when he had bypass surgery eight years ago.
His skinny assed heart Dr. told him to lose weight when he got released.
He tried everything, one day 5 years ago, he was having coffee with some of his old cronies and they got to talking about exercise. The lose of weight came up and off he went. Right now he is walking 10 miles every morning and he is currently setting on 205#. Been there for like 2 years I think he said. Wife is trying to get me to walk also. If I can get my leg strength and wind back, I'll be out there walking, whether it be around home or at the Aspen Club..

I lost 40 pounds and people at work asked how I did it. It's simple... never eat anything you like. Carbs are killer for me. I have a lot more to lose it isn't getting any easier.

If you want to lose 30# in a year then you need to reduce your food intake by about 300 calories (or burn an extra 300 calories per day). Just having water with your food 2X per day will do it if you're a soda drinker. I find a combination approach of diet and exercise to the be easiest. Determination and patience work best and before you know it it's a lifestyle. Just remember 500 calories per week over or under your needs = 1 pound weight gain or loss.

About 4 years ago, I was a 270 lb, 6' creature. And not too fat. Decided to lose weight to improve health. Used the advice of a nutritionist, gained another 10 lb.
Gave up on advice, tried my own idea. Sat down at 5pm every day, ate a big plate of veggies; carrots, celery, broccoli, and cauliflower. Did this for one year (no exercise), shed 60 lbs. I'm now a tiny 210 lb lad, and I've stayed this way.
And btw, those veggies are good for ya.

All the food suggestions are worthy of the attempt for sure, but, now as an old guy, I was never very much over-weight; 5-10 lbs. max. I was beginning to have the lower back problems, hips and knees were tightening up bad. Arthritis was becoming an issue too. I was just getting stiff all over.
My wife is a fitness freak who does Zumba, Yoga, Tia Chi and more and, I sorta let any regular exercise go to hades [used to play raquet ball, roller blade and ride my 10 speed long distace]. After quite a few years of pain, I began a morning stretch routine that targets the lower back, hips, knees joints and the core and have found that I no longer need the chiropractor, massage therapists and pain meds much at all. A change in eating habits is necessary to loose the weight, but certain exercises are essential for getting rid of the pain.

The key to losing weight is simple. Accomplishing the weight loss is another thing. It is basically = Calories in / Calories Out I started in February 2010 at 285 lbs and was tired of feeling like crap, not sleeping well, aches & pains, and sucking wind walking up a flight of stairs. But I discovered that "there's an app for that"... started using LoseIt on my Iphone and their stand alone website ( LoseIt App & Website Screenshots) to keep track of calories and exercise. As long as your honest with yourself and log everything that you eat, it will work for you. I was at 1500 calories per day and one hour of some type of exercise everyday. Eleven months later I was down to my goal of 200 lbs (85 lbs lost) and have never felt better. I have maintained between 197 and 204 since January 1. I now have the waist size I did in 10th grade (I am 42 years old) and can walk up the stairs without feeling like I am climbing a mountain. i still do about 1500-1600 calories per day and mix weightlifting with my cardio. I got a check-up at the doctor in March. Last time was six years ago. Then cholesterol was over 400, borderline diabetic, sleep apnea, and had to get a stress test (because of EKG readings) - and I was 36! Now... cholesterol 150, no diabetic issues, don't even snore, heart strong. Yeah... it's hard... but absolutely worth it.

You guys are all an inspiration. I've cut back the carbs, more fruit and veggies and whiter meats. I've never dug McD's or other fast food. Do have a weakness for MY chili dogs though. Lotsa onions and garlic. I move on the weekends and my job is fairly active. I painted a rock red and carried it till it was time to turn around. Now when I reach it I pick it up and carry it to the next "farthest out". I dont have to get to it every time it just marks the longest distance. ramble ramble
