Quick Trip to Ashville this Morning!

After a cup of joe and breakfast in Halls this morning, I pointed the Fat Lady toward I-40 East and Ashville. The traffic was light and I let the Ole Girl eat all those nice sweeping curves thru The Gorge. We took the first Ashville exit, gassed up and went to the local Waffle House to wait on a friend coming to meet me there. He arrived a little later and we had a nice lunch and some good conversation. We finally got up and we loaded a GL1500 Wing trailer hitch I had brought him into the trailer his GL1100 was pulling. We headed our separate ways back home and the twisties thru The Gorge was just as much fun as they were an hour earlier. Great ride!

That stretch of road between Tennessee and North Carolina is just about as nice a ride as the U.S. Interstate Highway system can provide.

Willow, You are definately spot on! For a 4 lane traffic pusher it has great curves and some pretty scenery! I had to make the trip as quickly as I could because of other commitments, but it was thoroughly enjoyable!

I sure hate that I missed all that good riding when I lived in E. TN. We had a 40 acre farm in Washburn (Grainger County) from '99 - '05 and I didn't have a bike the whole time we were there. Hearing you and Joe talking 'bout Halls and Clinton and the Veteran's Overlook on the way to Morristown really made me homesick. I've gotta get over there soon and ride up thru Union County and past the old homeplace and visit with y'all and some of my old neighbors in Washburn.

We will look forward to riding with you here in God's Country. I'm looking forward to the Hillbilly ride to W.Va. (Almost Heaven) in June. I grew up in those ancient mountains!

Love that part-o-I 40.
When I was cross country truck driving I got to go through that part on a regular basis.
The Pidgeon river held a wonderful experience. Nice slow dark water. Screamed Bass to me. I had a cane pole and parked the large car and went sliding down the nastiest muddiest slope I'd ever seen. Got a biggun on the second cast though. Now back up the greasy muddy slope with my prize. Uneventful ride to the 76 truckstop and the BBQ came out. Delicious.
Plan on takin the wife to see that area. You guys are so blessed to live there.
