Long ago when I was young we used to play with our calculators. One of our pastimes involved telling a story with numbers in which the final result would be a set of numerals that when the calculators were turned over could be recognized (or almost recognized) as spelling a word. One of those numeral sequences was 7734, which when upended would seem to spell hELL (Don't turn over your monitor).
Honestly, most forums don't block Hell as a banned word, but just so you know, 4377 when turned over spells LLEh. 3477 converts to LLhE. Seems to lose something, doesn't it?
If you're ashamed of saying, "Hell," (You may notice that I don't) then don't say it. If you just want to be cute or pretend that the prudes among us (such as myself) don't realize you're saying, "Hell" then you can use 7734, the always reliable H E double toothpicks or a cryptic phrase such as the legendary infernal subterranean regions in which combustion is unextinguished and the insidious legless invertebrate is unceasingly quickened. We'll know what you mean.
Next week we'll talk about then and than.
It's been raining all morning.

what the 7734,he!!,l-l3LL....are you talking about ben.... RTaz, he is just trying to justify his salary for policing this board. 7734, you hold it up to a mirror and it reads hell. Come on Gunny, let's get it right. Instead of Gunny, maybe I'm supposed to use Ben. Any way, who the hell cares.

I'm glad that we are open minded enough to say Hell if we desire. On other boards, you can't say petcock. Some people find the word "pet" offensive I suppose. Hell with them. Isn't Ben that guy on American Choppers?

Actually holding it up to a mirror just reverses the number and shows it backwards. For it to read as hELL, the 7734 does need to be turned upside down.

I turned the mirror upside down and then realized all I could see was back of monitor. Turned monitor to face mirror and still couldn't read hELL. Turned mirror over once more and no change ! Do some mirrors need to be sidewayz to make it work or have I taped the calculator to wrong end of the monitor?

Next, we need to address the use of "bring" and "take." As in...."I have to bring my kid to the doctor." No, you have to "take" your rugrat to the doctor. Those two terms go in opposite directions....and why am I even sitting here typing this? Mostly because the gutters are full of leaves and I don't feel like doing that today....or tomorrow...or next week.....or..... My girls, all well educated, love to give "dad" a hard time when it comes to the use and spelling of the English language. They all know my pet peeves and when either writing me a note, or when talking on screen, will purposely murder the king's English. And don't ever make a mistake, they give me the business mercilessly.
