Working on the new to me Valk..... Hey.... ya never really know what ya have till ya tear it down ta look at it.....
Splines in the hub look new... as do the spines on the driveshaft..... U-joint looks good.... and I'm changing out the bearings.... just because I'm in there....  Have about 8 weeks of trips planned this year and didn't want any suprises!!!!!
Looked all over and found both Belray assy lubewith moly and waterproof grease....   Sure like the look and feel of the lube with the moly.... think that is what I will use to put it all back together!!!!!

Mark, I've been running some grease made by Royal Purple, Ulimate grease is the name I think. Five dollars a tube and after 70 thousand miles I'm on my second tube. My splines still look like new and the bike has 130 thousand miles on it. When I got it a Royal Purple dealer gave it to me and said run it 15,000 miles and if anything was worn he'ld pay to replace the parts. Good stuff in my opinion.

Tighten the 4 nuts that hold the pumpkin to the swingarm after you torque the axle.

I like Royal Purple.... run it in my truck and other bike....
Sometimes hard to find though....
Yeah Daniel,.... learned that back in 98....after changing out the splines on my 97 we bought in June of 96....The info was in the shop manual.... but the dealer shops sure didn't do it.....Now I will pull my own wheels and take them in for  new shoes..... unless I'm on a road trip.  Problem is..... ya take a "good" road trip.... and ya will end up buying a rear tire on the road.....May be time for a 'darkside' switch....At least I could make a 10 or 12,000 mile trip without having to buy a tire on the road.....It's REAL pricey in Canada!!!!!!!!!!If ya can find a tire.....

I use Green Grease, its high temp, high pressure water proof grease. Used it now for 35k miles and shows no wear. I've been checking the splines at 10k untill last time with car tire and now will check the splines at 15k.
If ya decide to go with a car tire, give yourself time to ride it 1000 miles before your departure to break in the tire and get acustom to it.
Have a great trip! Smiley

Hey Hotglue, Your darn right that motorcycle tires in Canada are pricey. The dealers here have to go through a middle man (Parts Canada) and that jacks up the price. I have been running an Altimax for several years now and I'm on my second back tire. I'm pleased with the way the bike handles.
