Well finally getting to the final stages of Monkeyboy's remodel ...
He decided to go with a new bag instead of putting alot of money into the Bates bags (they are cool bags but to much had to be done with them) so he purchased a set of Mutazu bags

...nice bags for the best price....
Next he felt the mounting brackets that cam with the bags were okay but he wants something more substantial so he modified his mounts from the honda leather bags set-up...

finally got the bags drilled and mounted...along with the Memphis Shades fairing...

time for the shake down ride...

I like the set-up the brake lights in the bags are very bright and a good addition to the bike...now he just has to get the fairing and bags over to the painter and wait...

only criticism I see is they are mounted about 3 or four inches too low for my taste. I like the lines of the fender and the saddlebags to be approximately level.  This hides the fender rails and gives a bit more clearance between the top of the pipes and the bottom of the bags.

They are nice sized bags and enjoy...

actually the bags are 11" wide but much shorter then stock bags if we mounted them high they looked kinda weird so we chose to balance the look...

That's a good decision on mounting the bags lower, many of the after market brands mount to high and don’t look right.  I like what’s been done here.

I'd suggest some subtle black pin striping/accents on the side covers, tank, and front fender if you’re keeping the fairing and bags black.

...we plan on painting fairing and bag's red/white with maybe some orange pin-striping... cooldude

Those new Matzu RS bags look identical to OE Yamaha bags (except for reflector and bottom lights) I put on the wife's 1100 Yami.  And a hugely better price.

Well, they're different than usual,  far wider, but shallower/shorter, and a nice easy latch system with locks.  They are panniers, not bags.  LOL

Make sure to remind him to swing wide around cars in the drive and gas pumps and such.  They are wide enough to catch on things on short turns, and would not be a happy result.

Hi RTaz. Just wondering what had to be done to the original leather bag mounts so it would all work together? Have any pics of the modified mounts? Bags look great! Also wanted to add the fairing but heard it wouldn't work with Cobra spots. Suggestions? Would love to see the finished product when painted.

Hi Bumblebee...with the leather bag mounts we just welded two flat bars across the bracket and drilled and tapped the bar and mountd the bags to that ...when we strip it down for paint I will take a picture and post...the fairing works good with the National Cycle lightbar...I don't know about the cobra spots if you can mount a m/s windshield with a cobra I don't see why you couldn't put the fairing on they use the same mounts...

RTaz-Were any mods needed to mount the MS fairing or was it a simple bolt on? Are the new bags resting on the horizontal bar of the leather mounts? Thanks in advance.

So far so good, no problems but only had them a few months. As for the running light, just hooked them up last weekend let me know what you do. when i tested the lights on the bench I could activate the running and brake lights  separately but when I tried to tie them into the wiring on the bike I could not get them to work correctly, just the brake light working now. Gona have to deal with that later.

Also take a look at sealing the lens to protect the light board there is no rubber seal to keep the board dry, the lens just sets against the bag or "pannier". Just 3 screws from the inside to remove it.

the M/S fairing is a simple bolt on ...I believe if you have stock blinkers you have to move them down some but that's it...the bags are resting on the bottom bars..we wrapped some rubber strip's on them first..

We called Mutazu and they said the lights can be wired either as brake lights OR as running lights...we wired them as brake lights ...they are good and bright...we will play with it later and add a running light in the lens...thanks for the tip about sealing the lens
