I am more than willing to accept the documents as proof that he was born in the US. What is so hard to understand is why this wasn't done years ago. If the answer is that it was to let the "birthers" hang themselves, then shame on Obama and his handlers. He said this morning that we have far more important issues to concern ourselves with than his birth certificate. Very true, but that has been true for over 2 years but now he decides that it's time to put it to rest. So now we have a president confirmed to be a natural born citizen, who happens to have extremely poor judgement in the most simple of situations. I could agree with everything he said this morning about needing to solve problems but you just know that what the means is, let's solve them my way.

When President Bush was asked to show his college transcripts, he balked, and they were later released by an investigative news team. If a President or candidate responded to every document request, they would be so distracted and bogged down, that they couldn't function. I think it's more a matter of principal that they work on what they consider important, and ignore requests that are designed only to divert and distract them.

Having coffee with Oprah is too important to be distracted by telling someone to release the documents. It's not like he has to go to Hawaii and print copies himself. Maybe he can't handle a large important multitasking project like that.

I'd be curious to know how much it cost his backers to get those fake documents.
That Hospital back in the beginning said it had no record of his birth and now all of a sudden it pops up on a Long Live Birth Certificate.
Sorry, I'm not convinced. $$$$ can almost buy anything. Has to be a huge amount, but it can be done.

I figured the hard core "birthers" wouldn't be satisfied with this. Nothing will appease them, and that is the main reason not to comply with those requests. Next there will be "DNAers" who will demand scientific proof our President is human, and over the age of 35.

I gotta go with the fact that his sister claims he was born in Hawaii, but at a different hospital, and his grandmother claims she was there when he was born in Kenya

There is a difference
The constitution does not mention any requirement of attending or graduating college
It does mention birth Alexander Hamilton knew he could not run was he the last honest man or is it Arnold?
In the future, imho, all candidates should show the certified copy of the birth certificate before being able to announce a candidacy for president
Now even if the certificate is real, there will always be doubters, because POTUS did not care to release the original when he was still a candidate.
As for myself, I believe a deal was struck with the Clintons not to delve into the issue in return for an agreement that Hillary could be Secty of State. Whether the man was born here or not he lost a great deal of my respect when he allowed his agents to spend millions trying to knock all the birth certificate cases out of court before he was elected and after. And a great deal more of it when he bowed to a sheik. I have respect for the office of president though and will admit it bothers me some to have to hear this
Hey I was born here, I did lots of drugs as a kid and I graduated law school in the top 90% of my class and last time I looked in the mirror I was still a white male. We have never had a jewish president I think we should have affirmative action so I can run.
yeah why not maybe I should run. All I need is a couple of hot mistresses, some love children and a former terrorist black panther leader with a billion bucks sitting around and I would be qualified.
(NOTE SARCASM FONT ENGAGED) Nope I will keep my day job and ride my Valkyrie

Exactly my point Bobbo, It took him till now to decide that this was "important". This should not have been a diversion or distraction for the president. The decision to produce the documents should have been met with no more consideration that whether to have sugar or splenda with his coffee. I think if "hard core birthers" are still not convinced, the issue will be with the way the question has been handled not just the documents themselves. I agree that no matter what he does at this point there will always be some doubt by some people. I believe that a great deal of arrogance instead of principle is involved in these decisions and that is true for both sides of the aisle.

I must say that this one does look more convincing than the one that was released during the campaign.
I am curious as to why there is a discrepancy in the two.
Personally I think that EVERY presidential candidate should have to verify his / her citizenship after all it is a requirement of the job.
As a side note: If you look at the parent's ages it does appear that there is a good chance that Obama's mother was only 17 when his 24 yr old father got her pregnant. Maybe that's what he was trying to hide.

That's a very uncool response to the release. I would expect that people of honor would accept the evidence and say, "Thank you. That's what we have demanded to see."
As to whether or not it means anything, the "natural born" clause was put in to exclude immigrants. Barrack Obama was born to an American citizen and by that virtue was born an American citizen regardless of location. Had his detractors managed to prove he was born in Kenya, they still would have had a tough legal battle ahead defending that he would be excluded from the presidency based upon location of birth.
I'm expecting some folks to display their high character now and drop the ridiculous practices based upon a meaningless argument.
Incidentally, if you bother to read the statement with the release, the White House contends that the certificate previously made public was adequate.

I was never one of the "birther" people. However, we have a war in Libya that isn't a war (that was supposed to be over in a matter of days). Syria is murdering protesters by the hundreds, and they are now on the UN Human Rights Commission (which I really don't care about, but if we are in Libya, why not Syria? Why the heck are we in Libya?!?). Texas is burning, the plains and midwest are drowning, the south is being shredded by storms. And he is making an appearance on Oprah. You know, so she can end her run in style. Ok, my rant is over. Carry on.
Also, Friday is supposed to be nice here in Indiana, maybe I will finally get my bike out and see if I fixed that pesky backfire.

we will have to agree to disagree.......but as you stroll away........he can be your president.....he's not mine.....never was.....never will be I don't want to drag out a disagreement, and I'm pretty much okay with agreeing to disagree, but I do have one small point to make. I'm an American. At one time I raised my hand and took an oath regarding a responsibility I accepted to my country and it happened to include the President of that country. I'm not a big fan of democracy as it's practiced today, but it's what we have and, as some have said, it appears to be better than the next best option.
My policy is to accept the decision of the majority whether or not I agree with that decision. I don't have to agree with everything or even anything that the President does for me to acknowledge him (or her, shiver) as the President. I do this so that when my candidate is elected and someone displays an un-American attitude toward him I can hold my head high and have the option of looking down my nose at such a person. Maybe I will and maybe I won't exercise that option, but I like to have it available.
Truthfully I just don't want to be like the ones I choose to disdain.
YMMV bihniomm.

I have no information that would give me reason to say this new document is fake....Im hoping its real, that he is in fact a full fledged citizen of the United States, so he can be 100% accountable for his actions that he could (wont be) be impeached for. So, because we will never see articles of impeachment started, I sure hope he is placed on Federal charges soon after he leaves office. Oh what crimes you ask?
Im sure theres more, but:
-direct involvement and funding voter registration and voter fraud -campaigne finance fraud and illegal contributions -interfereing with state elections and offering compesation to effect the outcome -war crimes by firing on Lybia without authority from Congress
flame on, those that do that sorta thing.....but this is a bad dude who soon will not have an iron curtian to hide behind

Re. forgery, now which is the correct one? The one just released which I agree could be "bought." Or the one released showing a Kenyan birth which also can be "bought" but frankly looks a lot more legit. Since the general population will never know the real truth one way or the other, I decided a couple years ago to not dwell on it. Whether it's right or wrong....money talks, and it has been screaming rather loudly for some time now. Just my opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it.

Yes, but the fact is that a news team was able to find the transcripts. Had the situation been for me to prove that I am an American citizen, it would take me thirty seconds to do, and I wouldn't argue or mislead anyone while I did it. When you take the position of ignoring your accuser, it makes you look guilty. Had obamma confronted this two years ago, it wouldn't have been an issue and he wouldn't have made soo many people question the whole thing. BTW, what does it hurt? what does he gain by hiding this document? To me it says “I don’t need to be accountable to you the public” and for most, that matters.

College transcripts may be easier to get than HIPAA protected documents. I think the point Obama was making was that by asking only him for this document, it was simply a form of political harassment, and he decided to ignore it. It seems apparent that it was only done for harassment, since no matter what is released, it is questioned by the "birthers" and called fake. This would have happened whether he produced it in 30 seconds, or 2 and a half years.

Previously, the polls showed that those who questioned his birth location were a fringe, and refusing to produce the document was politically in Obama's favor, allowing his side to mock those who questioned it. Recently, especially with the chorus coming from Trump, the polls showed a shift that more and more of the mainstream was beginning to question the legality of his presidency, thus it was no longer politically advantageous to withhold the document any longer. Just my opinion... And, for what it's worth, I'm satisfied the document is real, and wish the issue would go away. At this point it's a distraction and a waste of energy that could otherwise be put towards working to make sure he's removed from office using the proper methods, as being a one term president...

I have no argument with your opinion, he may have done the politically profitable thing for himself, while thumbing his nose at those who wonder why not put this thing to rest. It's the arrogance of the people/party in power to say we don't have to answer to you. I hope people continue to push for answers to their questions. I stated in my first post to this thread that I accept the documents as proof and I wish for the issue to go away also, but I won't forget the way it has been handled. I'm guessing he was getting pretty tired of it constantly being brought up. His actions or lack thereof were the reason for his tiredness.

Anyone who never believed he was born here is just going to dismiss the new document out of hand. Anyone who already believed he was born here will consider the new document to be indisputable. Truth be told, neither knows more then the other.
As far as not producing it sooner. If it was not required, why should he? No one can stop me on the sidewalk and demand to see my "papers" or look in my pockets because a Rolex was stolen down the street. This is the USA after all. Don't blame the president because no one in the history of our nation ever thought producing a BC should be a requirement. Probably should be, but until that day........

Its a no-win situation for the President. No matter what he did, it wouldn't have been good enough for some people. He had released the original "official" birth certificate that the state of Hawaii typically issues. That wasn't enough. So where does it end? Already, people are stating that its a fake, or it doesn't mean anything. I actually saw a tea-party official actually state that even if he was born in Hawaii, that doesn't mean he was a "natural born citizen" as the founding fathers had intended because his father was Kenyan and would have bestowed Kenyan or British citizenship on his son. WTF does that mean?? His mother was an American citizen and he WAS born in HAWAII. Nothing satisfies them. So I really think he was hoping it would just go away. And really, for the most part, it had been just a far right fringe issue until the past month or so when Trump started getting so much attention over it. Until then, most mainstream republicans were actually distancing themselves from it. Heck, they were even starting to really run from Trump with folks like Karl Rove even stating it was stupid. And I think the President was happy enough to let them hang themselves over an issue that really was demeaning the republican party.

my guess this was released in order to besmirch trump, but the 'art of the deal' is to use your opponents momentum against them.
we do have other, more pressing things to worry about. like being on Oprah, and throwing a few more parties at the tax payers expense.

The status of the birth certificate should be manditorily reviewed for any person who qualifies to run for public office if it is so stated in law; as is the case in the instance of the POTUS classification. I have to show my BC often to qualify myself for any "legal" issue. Passport; Marriage License; Adoption; Drivers License; heck, I even had to show it to play little league baseball back in the day. BO is guilty of imposing his will on the American people and skirting the law in every possible way, as the elite often do. He is running his liberal agenda at the expense of everything else, in spite of the consequences. My hope is that he be replaced with another, whether Republican or Democrat or other classification and be every persons President from day one!

Not concerned where he was born, it never bothered me at all. What bothers me is the electorate in this country was so stupid or ignorant as to put a person with his beliefs in the WH. Liberalism never has & never will work no matter who tries it or how well they speak. Now & in the future we all will pay for our collective ignorance.

+ 1 I still don't believe for a second that he was born here.

he wasn't, he was born in Hawaii!! His birth country is actually a moot point, since his mother is an American citizen.

Can ANY birth certificate...Or any other paper,no matter what it has printed on it make him a better president ? Why all the concern ? A real candidate in 2012 will do ALOT more good than either answer to the question !!

That's Not As Cut and Dried as you would think..... I have an uncle that spent 28 years in the Air Force.... He was stationed in Turkey with his family when one of my cousins was born. Due to circumstances that I don't recall my cousin was born in a Turkish hospital instead of an Air Force Hospital. Because of this he was initially determined to be a Turkish citizen and my uncle had to go through a ton of red tape to get him declared an American Citizen. As a matter of fact the red tape was so bad that he had to extend his tour of duty in Turkey.

I believe he was born in Hawaii. But I also believe you are confused about the meaning of “natural born". It means citizen at birth. If someone is born on foreign soil to US citizens, they are not a citizen at birth. They don't become a citizen until the birth is reported and recorded. And it must be done before the child's 18th birthday. US military bases, US embassies, US territories are not foreign soil. Not sure but I believe US flag ships and US flag aircraft also qualify. Case in point news story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110324/us_yblog_thelookout/wwii-vet-discovers-hes-not-a-u-s-citizenI understand he was granted citizenship since this story. It turns out that Prior to May 24, 1934, a child born abroad in wedlock would have acquired U.S. citizenship at the time of their birth provided that at least one parent had resided in the U.S. for any period of time prior to the child’s birth. Therefore, Mr. Davidson has been a U.S. citizen since the time he was born, he just, based on the facts presented, has not had proof of his citizenship.

I'm certainly no Obama supporter but this was a waste of time for a long time. There are certainly more important issues to discuss regarding his regime than his birth certificate. I'm actually surprised he let it out as the longer it went on the dumber the birthers looked. I have the same regard for the idiots that think 911 was an inside job.
I hope for change next November,
Mark
