A co-worker of mine has the yamaha Warrior. He started a Very direct conversation to the affect of the warrior being superior to the Lady. Mine specifically is a 99 Std with Cobra 6x6's with the carb work completed and a K&N. Can she make this individual insert his foot to the point that he chokes on his ankle???? Evil Evil

Having had metric V twins, including Yamaha, in the past and knowing how people are, it really depends on what you like, ya know?  The Warrior is a very nice big V twin with lots of low RPM torque.  Yamahas are  nice bikes all in all too.  The Valkyrie, which I have one day experience with, is IMHO, a much superior bike in terms of smoothness and power and bling.  Fit and finish are close to the same speaking OEM.

Bottom iine... There are LOTS of V Twins, metric and American.  There's only one flat six big fat momma and she rules the roost.  IMHO.

VTX 1800 1/4 mile 12.30 @ 105.     The Warrior, at 12.71 seconds and 103.0 mph through the quarter-mile.    Thats pretty close to the valkyrie

I have the same set up on my 98 STD as the OP. There's no doubt about the Valk winning IF the Warrior was stock. Yamaha has different power upgrade stages like HD.

I haven't had the opportunity to run one with my Valk yet, but flat blew the side covers off of one with my VTX 1800- I pulled him so bad, it embarrased him and he didn't stop where he was suppose to to talk about it! 2funny 2funny

Superior in what way?

It is certainly not a superior touring motorcycle.

In a flat out race, probably not superior either...... but a better rider can often beat someone with  10-15 more horsepower than his bike.  And with pipes, air kit, and fuel controller properly mapped, the warrior is no slouch.

According to these 1/4 mi. specs, it's the Valk by a hair, 12.13@107.0 vs. 12.51@104.8 for the Warrior.

http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/performancedata/122_0108_pdataresults/index.html

FYI, VTXGuy, the 1800 X shows up at 12.21@107.48.  At some point, WGAS, they're all way fast  cooldude

And yes, those numbers just measure straight-line acceleration.  Throw in a sweeper or two and the Valk rider will take home the pinks every time.

If he is a competent rider just throw him the keys to the Valk. Doubt he will bet a nickle on his Yamaha then. If he still wants to run,at least he will know what he is missing out on with his moped.

Hmm...I think the Valk has a little on straight line acceleration on the Warrior and the VTX 1800, but I've put a few miles on all 3 and the Warrior seems to take the curves better IMHO. At least better than the Interstate. YMMV.

It would be close, I think the riders ability would play a large role, who gets the jump out of the hole, who is willing to dump their clutch, who is ready to bang some gears. Smiley

I had an intern who had a Warrior.  We had a site visit to make in southern Indiana and rode the bikes... (Darn it  Evil)

He and I had many drag races that day, and While I outweighed him by 100 lbs... the races were essentially a dead heat.  I think I could edge him if we were both on a good pass.  but it would have been barely.

I had both at the same time in 2006.  Bought a new left-over 2005 midnight warrior to have a second bike for running around town.  The warrior has an incredible amount of low end torque feel and is probably a bit faster right off the line.  Where the warrior has an advantage is in the twisties.  You can really throw it through the curves.  Top end and 0-100 definitely goes to the Valk, all other variables being equal with both bikes being stock.

I ended up selling the bike to my son in 2007 and buying a new Rocket 3 for a second bike....there's no comparison between the R3 and the Valk when it comes to zero to whatever, with the Rocket being faster in all cases.  The rocket has a lot of ground clearance, but the 240 rear tire takes a lot of effort to throw it through the curves.

YMMV

It's amazing to see the variations of specs. One thing for sure they're all 12 second machines.  IMO it all depends on the rider. Wishful thinking on the pinks every time! Grin I am fortunate to own 2 of the fastest Honda cruisers in the past decade. And there's not many cruisers that are a threat except the Rocket 3 and I know my limitations! If I wanted speed only, I'd buy a Busa or a 200hp V-Max cooldude

My thoughts exactly.  I would race him.  However, If you arent willing to really get rough with her and wring her neck.  Just let it go.

At the worst you have confirmed his opinion and further inflated his ego, and at the best you get to shut him up.  Since he already thinks that he has the fastest bike ya really got nothing to lose.  I say TWIST IT!

If you agree to a roll-on start, endeavor to be in 3d gear at 3KRPM when you light it up.

In my experience, that is the valk's best sweet spot, and nearly nothing can keep up at that spot.

Thanks for the help. What started this was a dinner ride after work. He decide to jump me at 55mph on a flat stretch.  I addressed that situation with authority and some extra to spare.  Evil He's now pushing for a flat out drag.  Ive got 10yrs riding to his 1, plus a few trips to the old drag strip under my belt. Its been  5 or 6yrs now but I was able to pull a .050 reaction time on a prostreet tree back then.  May have to see if he's got the stones to back up his mouth.....

It's been longer than that for me since I ran at the strip....real long! But it's just like riding a bike or playing an insturment- you never forget. If it's really on  and you haven't come out of the hole on that bike for a while, I'd find an old country backroad and do a couple of runs. Just my $.02.

Let us know when you do your victory lap!! Lol cooldude

Pack for a trip...and then race him. You'll have stashed your gear and be there before he figures out how to carry his luggage on that Warrior. That would beat him!

This guy has been riding for 1 year?  He's likely to kill himself and you as well in a race unless you break ahead at the start and never relinquish the lead.  Then he'll just kill himself.  I can understand the temptation to shut this guy up, but that level of experience on such a powerful machine is a bad combination to be around.

Did he tell you he's been riding for a year or do you know that for fact? Might be a "bike shark" Grin and baiting you if it's a money run. If he's REALLY been riding just a year, unless it was all at the strip, I find that doubtful.

most of the drag strips have nights when you can race bikes.  Why not find out when the next one is, then invite him to race in a controlled environment.  It will be much safer and you will have proof of your times for bragging rights.

These "my bike is faster than yours" things are pretty juvenile at best.

Good luck....

Great Idea, that way it can be documented and hopefully posted! THe drag strips around here both cars and bikes run. There are certain times it's just bikes only. They also have grudge runs too. BTW, how do you like your R3? I know the specs but never rode one yet. How does she handle in the twisties being such a big bike? Triumphs and Nortons have always handled well. I'm thinking of buying one when I find the right deal. I know they had trouble in the early years with the tranny. When did they resolve the issue and what year used ones should I be looking at?
Thanks
