I believe I have front bearings going bad on the front of my '97 Standard.

Sunday, when turning in either direction, I could slightly hear, and feel thru the bars, a light growling sound. I attributed it to the Metz wearing in (about 5k miles on it).

Riding to work this week, it has gotten progressively worse, so that now, any move from straight ahead produces a louder growl, and I can now feel it thru the pegs also.

So, I suspect wheel bearings. They felt fine when I put the new tire on, but...

Just asking for confirmation on my diagnosis, or tell me I'm wrong and where I might look. Don't have time tonight to pull the front wheel, but hopefully tomorrow night.

Thanks

Sounds like the same thing I've got going on with my 97 Standard.  Will be changing them soon as they are a known weak point on the 97's.

My left rear bearing went bad on my 98.  I could feel it in turns, but with the wheel off it seemed fine until you added some side load, then you could feel the wear.

Dennis if it were a 98 or newer I have bearings in my garage. I buy mine at channel bearing  just off 225 and federal road. About 10 bucks each.

Yup on the number.  Grin

Called around today, NW Honda has both bearings for $16 & change, in stock. I'll have the wife go by tomorrow and pick them up.
