After a total of 26 years seven months and 3 days of total Govenment Service as well as about 15 years of private employment, four years of hospitalization, I get to retire today, or rather on the 30th of the month.  This will be my last official eight hour day of gainful employment.  Somehow I have managed to stay alive, not do "in" any stupid supervisors or get run over, more than one time, in the past 66 years.

If all goes well, in getting the presant house painted and ready to sell, next weekend I get to move to my new home, back to my birth place in Wyoming.  What a long and strange road it has been.

My Valkyrie has been my sanity saving option for the past eleven years.  I plan on riding it for a few more of the retirement years also.   cooldude

Congratulations on making retirement. I'm one to two years away myself and my Valk Trike is also patiently waiting for that day. I hardly get to ride at all presently.

Good for you.........

I retired the 1st time in 86, was too young to draw a retirement, so I went to work in another profession for 10 years.

Retired the 2nd time and raised mucho hell, then I kind of slouched on my butt, and today, I'm blaming that for my pees poor health.   I should have staid more active, instead of setting on my butt behind a desk fighting with the customers that came into our shop when they said we didn't do something right.

So to make them happy, we kissed their butt at 5:00 PM on a Friday night at a downtown intersection, then fixed the 2nd problem they discovered, or knew about before we got the vehicle.

Vell, effective last Monday, I sold my share of the shop to my son for $1.00.   Going to kind of miss that paycheck every week but what the hay.     Did payroll last night, we go Thursday to Wednesday on the time clock.    Wrote my last check then.

Sure going to help my taxes come the end of the year.

I wish you a good deal more than just a few years of riding your Valk.

Retirement is great.  It's been 20.5  years since I retired at 62.

Rode the Valk and now the VStrom.

Enjoy the ride and the move.  Wyoming is a beautiful state. I spent some time tromping the hills hunting mule deer around Sheridan.

Know the feeling, I retired form Sam after 23 years, and thought I just needed to work for about a year to really retire.  20 years later I hung it up fpr good.  Congratulations on getting there, may you have a looooooong and enjoyable rest of your life.  Sometimes I miss it a little, and then I smack myself and wake up.

After a total of 26 years seven months and 3 days of total Government Service..... on the 30th.

Congratulations buddy.  I did the same last May, with 26 years, 0 months, 0 days of svs with the G.   Felt like 26 decades.  I am not a superstitious person,  but watch your step until the 30th.

Bro, congrats on making to the last day.  You'll enjoy your time off as long as your Valk is running.  Thought WY can be a bit windy and cold for many months of the year.  What part of WY are you heading back to.  I spent some 23 years in the Rawlins area.  Left 10 years ago, got tired of the wind.  But did like the open areas and hunting there.

I pullled the plug in 01/02/09.  Walked out and never went back.  40 years in Fed service was enough.

I retired 4 years ago at 63 and have been enjoying this phase of life, it's great. Was going to give you a little advice, but after reading Solo's post, I'll just shut up, don't have enough experience, LOL.

I retired from the TFD in 2003 at age 58, retired from the second career at the local university one year ago today.  Valkyrie mileage average 8 to 10 thousand until last year.  Mileage since complete retirement last year 21 thousand.  You do the math and get ready to buy tires every year!   cooldude  Cheesy  Grin Hoser

Thirty-seven years down... fifteen months to go. The batteries in my give-a-damn meter are getting a little weaker with each passing month. Can't wait to join the club. sheets
