I have been looking for an older bike to buy cheap and have around to work on, putter around, etc. Anyway, I found a guy that will sell me his 1971 Honda CB450 for $500. It currently runs, but needs a new battery and some carb work.

What say all you experts? Is this something I should get into? I know little about tihs year and model CB.

I'd jump on it.  Check out what some of these are selling for on e-bay and you'll see what I mean.

I am no expert on the old CB's other than I own one.  I have a '69.

I've loved all my previous CB's: 1973 CB 350, 1974 CB 750/Four; 1975 CB 550/Four; 1982 750-F.  Wink

They are fantastic bikes and very easy to work on them.  Roll Eyes
To be honest, the most enjoyable was the CB 350. Light weight and fast. Shocked

If you are as heavy as I now am, on the highway you want to ride alone for the speed thrill.  Embarrassed

I am now working on my 1977 (999cc) naked Goldwing, my 5th GL1000.
Would be just as happy with a clean CB.

Enjoy it!
