I saw this article regarding the Amish selling non pasteurized milk.  The feds spent a full year investigating the criminals!!

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/apr/28/feds-sting-amish-farmer-selling-raw-milk-locally/

My father use to make his own cheese and for those of you that didn’t know this, raw milk makes better cheese than the milk that you can buy at the store.  Sure, you can use whole milk from the store, but it doesn’t taste as good.  my father use to go across the street to the local farmer and buy five gallons, boil it to make ricotta cheese, he’d also make mozzarella once in a while, his provolone wasn’t that great but it was much better then the stuff you got at the store.

I don’t think any of us kids ever got sick of eating that cheese, nor did we get sick from drinking that milk.

I hope the feds do some arresting of those women that feed their kids raw breast milk!!  Now that’s a crime in it’s self!!

The same administration that looks the other way on "medical marijuana", and all the illegials crossing over, actually suing states to prevent them from enforcing the law, has a year long investigation and a sting to shut down Amish milk sellers?

Can you say "Priorities Screwed Up?"

As long as the consumers know what they are buying, and any potential risks, they should be allowed to buy the milk.  What a Farce!

If your dad was boiling the milk, isn't that pasteurizing it?

Your mistake is expecting ANYTHING that the Federal Government does to make SENSE.

I can think of alot of places to take this statement..............  Evil  Evil

Grew up on raw milk. When i lived in texas-had acess to raw milk. Made my own butter. Got some really good eggs from those farmers. Well i guess i'll do the right thing and turn myself in to big brother. Wait-maybe not. They might want to experiment on me cause the raw milk and the uninspected eggs did not KILL me. When i lived in colorado helped a buddy of mine slaughter his pigs-do i dare tell uncle sugar how good that bacon was. Durn-more to put on the ticket they are sworn by law to issue to me. Maybe i'll go on the lam now. See if i can find a good amish family to take me in. Raw milk-fresh cream-fresh eggs-ya uh huh-i'm ready to suffer while i'm hiding out. Can't seem to find the sarcasm cut off button. 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny 2funny RIDE SAFE

no, you're not a wise guy, i didn't take it that way.

boiling the milk, actually getting it right up to the point were it boils, then putting in vinager, of course the right amount, is how you make ricotta cheese.  i've got the recipe, i just can't get fresh raw milk so that i can try making it myself.   Roll Eyes

i use to be able to get "rennit" from the local cheese makers, but now, because they're afraid of law suits, they won't sell it to me..... (no, i wouldn't sue them, just some would....)

Years ago my wife was on a natural health/beauty "kick". She was into the mud packs, stc., and wanted to take a milk bath. She ask the milk man to deliver 25 gallons of milk for her health bath. He asked, "Do you want it pasteurized?"  She said, " No, up to my t**s will be fine".
