In preparation to pull the rear wheel I found that my rear brakes are shot and ruined the rotor.  No there was never a warning.  The pistons are frozen in the caliper so I will be rebuilding the caliper.  I have a spare wheel with a rotor on it so I won't have to buy another rotor.  I hope the rebuild kits include the pistons!

I will be visiting Bama Red either this Saturday or next Saturday.  A finer gentleman doesn't exist.  Hope we can get a few rides in together this year.

Sorry to say there are no pistons in the rebuild kits and they are expensive little buggers too boot.....I usually clean them up pretty good using a buffer wheel on a drumel..you don't want to scratch them up, just get them smooth.

This same thing happened to a friend of mine on his Valkyrie Interstate.  Yes there was warning.  The warning was that the pads were getting thinner and thinner........the thing is, you have to look at them every once in a while.  its not that hard maybe a flashlight.  They dont last forever

I think they were like this when I bought the bike last October.  You can bet that I will keep an eye on them in the future!  I have it apart and the inside of the caliper looks good.  The pistons should clean up nicely.  I should get the seals by next Tuesday or Wednesday and back together.

Just got done last week with all that maint stuff. My front and rear pads were thin but still had some of the factory grooves in them. Sorry your S O L on the rotor-but i get the feeling it AIN'T never gonna happen again to you. RIDE SAFE.

You are correct; this will never happen again!  Do you think I will be checking the front pads while doing these?  You bet!  As easy as it is to pull the bags, this will be a twice a year check for me.  I can't wait till I get the splines checked and greased and know for myself everything is good to go.
Thanks for everyone's advise and help!
