OK, airbags sounded strange, right? But they worked out OK. You ready for seatbelts and ejector seats?

If I didn't read it in print, I would have thought it was an episode of Wiley Coyote and the Roadrunner.

Where Coyote almost has him on his Goldwing...... then the ejector seat malfunctions and shoots him over into the Grand Canyon, or the roof of a rock tunnel, or maybe just slides him into oncoming traffic after hitting a bad bump.

I'm never getting on a motorcycle with an ejection seat in the ON position.

(Do airbags ever activate when they shouldn't?)

How about an air bag for the rider?
I think I'd want that if I had an ejection seat.

The front brake was innovation enough.

Yes, but only the rider has one..... and on some rides, I would have happily ejected myself.   2funny

The article said that the seat is merely released in a non-head-on crash, but the idea of a James Bond ejector seat is a funny one!   cooldude

This would be cool in Mission Impossible V when an older Tom Cruise spy is riding around on a Gold Wing instead of those snazzy little bikes from the earlier movies.

Just stick the air bag under the seat!

(my luck, I'd crash under a bridge)

I guess they figure us drivers are airbag enough for our passengers.

I really appreciate Honds's development and R&D. If I were in the market for a Gold Wing, I'd go with the airbag model for sure.

YMMV,

Honda MotorCompany called and after seeing my video they are reconsidering their new idea.

Seems even the best ideas have problems.

wilie coyote wheel on helmetpowered by Aeva

At least he was wearing a Helmet.

Sounds good after being ejected from the motorcycle I am riding a seat down the road.

And when I stop I am still attached to the seat in the road, cannot even dodge a Dodge with that seat stuck to my Butt.

AL ! ! !  You could have put down the video camera long enough to tell me I would never catch the roadrunner that way !  tickedoff Or at least offered a hand before the high voltage line fell on me!

This looks to be a blocking patent, When you have an ideal you make it general enough to cover alot of different ideals.  This keeps other companies from developing along the same line of thought.  Its good for about 7 years or until someone wants to through enough money at it to break it.  I've seen alot of patents that were designed to block existing development on current patents in this way.  Like Airbag patents, they were originally designed for airlines.
