Out on a ride last weekend and right after I jumped on the freeway to come home I saw 3 other bikes heading the other way. Saw they were raising there hands to wave so I started to do the same. But instead of waving all 3 raised there hands over there helmets and tapped the top of them several times.
This confused me so I just waved and kept riding but continued to think about it. I was doing about 75 but speed limit was 65. Still puzzled I thought maybe they were trying to tell me something was up ahead. What could it be? So I slowed down to 65.
About a mile later there was a CHP standing next to a big bushy tree, barely could see him, holding a Radar gun pointing directly at me. His car was completely behind the tree, almost NO visual warning what so ever. As I rode by him I let out a Big sigh of relief and just kept riding. No ticket.
Luckily I saw the 3 bikers and slowed down. So my question is, Did they warn me of what was ahead? Is that the biker sign for COP with a radar gun ahead? Is there a cheat sheet some where that will tell me the rest of the Riders Sign Language? Or was I just Lucky?
Still new to the Riding Life Style but have been use to riding on and off since I was a kid. If there is some kind of Sign Language to use I would like to learn it at least to help other riders.

That is definitely a recognized sign for police. "Heads up" Some times a "slow down" will be seen. Palm down, wave hand up and down.
It would be helpful for you to google "motorcycle hand signals" for a complete run down, especially if you plan on joining any group rides.

Yeppers, you hit the nail on the "HEAD",,, LOL it's late couldn't help myself. Tapping the top of your helmet to oncoming riders indicates there is a speed trap of some shape or form ahead.. Palm down indicates about the same but may also mean that you need to slow ahead for other reasons also. Hey Magellon, your just up the road from me, if you ever make it down to the southbay let me know and maybe we can catch a bit of wind together. Or maybe a wrench party around this area. There are 2 local bike forums that might interest you if you are not already aware of them. www.southbayriders.com {SBR} (street, dirt, dualsport, (track, dirt/street)) you name it somebody on that one is into it all over California they have members and even in other parts of the country. The other I am not very familiar with at all but I have visited every so often. www.bayarearidersforum.com {BARF} seems to be mostly younger sport riders but they do have many members.

We use hand sigs all the time esp when passing. Lt hand out pointing to the ground, turn left, fist up, turn right. Usually she will do them for me and when we stop its usually hand out. We do the foot out for obsticles. I do see the tap your head a time or 2 but usually its the pat the ground slow down I see most often.

Not sure if I would go with the 'tap your helmet to slow down'. What if your helmet is in the bag or at home wrapped in plastic ? I'd look silly tapping my saddle bag. Better safe to say just tapping your head.

Been riding over 40 years, and just saw a new one yesterday. Had been on a small group ride, that ended early and two gals (hd AND honda) wanted to go more, so I led them on some nice back roads in beautiful VA Spring weather. It was getting late and we decided to didi home on the freeway back into town. While leading, the gal on the honda pulled up beside me, raised her visor, held her hand up to her mouth, and extended her tongue to full extension and simulating slow licking. I had just met this (very attractive) gal and was unclear on her signal, but smiled widely and shook my head in the affirmative, thinking........................ Five miles later, she peeled off to head in her own direction home, leaving me wondering. Later, I discovered that she wanted us to go to the Dairy Queen. Man talk about mixed messages.

Tapping your helmet is the universal sign you are leaving a group ride with no bike trouble, so the gunner does not have to take care of a breakdown. (Called 'tapping-out')
More recently it means there's cops (or something else requiring your attention) ahead. Around here, flashing your lights to warn of a radar trap can get you pulled over, so this is code used to alert riders, but not cagers.

Ya'll forgot one important signal.
It's the "SINGLE FINGERED SALUTE"
It tells 'em right off the batt just what you think of their driving.

I've been known to pull my cell phone out of my pocket and pull out in front of a "TEXTING DRIVER", then pretend to shove it up my rear and point at the driver.

Not necessarily for riding, although some of them could come in handy on the road too!
