I recently fell into a lightly used Valkyrie cruise control.  Should I put it on or not?   Undecided  TIA

It's the MotorCycle Setup Pty. Ltd. unit from Australia.

Dave that one has a sterling reputation, reason more of them are not around is its very expensive.  Think thats what RJ uses and has had great luck with it.  Dont think you will regret installing it.  I am thinking about one from the company that makes the Audiovox, I believe it is a Rostra, and is also fully electronic with no vaccumn requirement.  Its also reasonably priced, just a little more than the Audiovox.

It's the MotorCycle Setup Pty. Ltd. unit from Australia.

I'll say this and get it off my chest, so after reading it just laugh, OK?

If ya don't put it on you is dumber than a box of rocks. 2funny

With that said, I put one on MGM over 220,000 miles ago.  NO problems with it what so ever........  I never protected the switch on the bars when it rained, snowed or someone just up and poured water on it.

It will hold the MPH within + or - 1 MPH from what ya set it.  Even up and down hills.... It is not really too smart to use it in the rain, as there is enough HP in the Valk, she could possibly spin the rear wheel on ya.   Dats NOT good with the Cruise on.

OK, RJ.  I'm laughing.  I live about 10 miles from Patron and he has one and loves it.  I trust his judgement, but was just looking for more data points.

(You'd think I was pretty smart (or lucky) if you knew what I had to give for it!)   Evil

Regardless of cost, it is a very good unit and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I had to.....

Everything is tucked in behind something and out of sight, so the only clue that it is there is the off/on switch on the right handle bar.

I hope ya got the round Black 3 cable do hickey with it, or you might have trouble getting it to set and hold.......   This replaces the normal throttle acuator...  It looks tricky to install, but once ya figure it out it is cinch.  Did he have the 30 page instruction manual with it........   I just threw mine away a couple of weeks ago when cleaning out the garage.

Do ya have a picture of all the pieces you could post?

I got the unit from a Valkyrie owner who said he had had it on his Standard.  I made a copy of Patron's Installation Manual dated 8 September 2001 but I'm not sure it's the right one for my pieces.  I have compared the parts I have to the parts list in the manual and there are some discrepancies - not so much with missing stuff, but different stuff.  The biggest question concerns the wiring loom.  The manual says the part number is MCS 1501.  Mine is labeled MCS 1072.  Manual says 20-way connector to the computer.  Mine looks to be 6-way.  Manual says there is a CruiseSafe Power Relay on the loom.  Mine doesn't have one.  Manual says Tach (ignition) sensor connectors (orange and brown wires).  Mine doesn't have them.  Manual says Switch Plug (6-way).  Mine doesn't have one.  What I assume to be the serial number is still on the computer module, so hopefully they will be able to clarify.  I am missing the 2 magnets and want to make sure I get everything else, if anything, I need in one shipment.  I tried multiple times to get MCCruise's online contact email to work, but they have a glitch with their "type the characters you see in the picture" function.  I guess I'll have to call them.

http://spoiledbiker.com is a U.S. distributer in Florida. They can most likely help you and save some Australia shipping fees & overseas phone charges, maybe!

Update: I called MCCruise, spoke with Tony Guymer, and told him about their online glitch.  He was rather peeved at the problems that might be causing, gave me sales@mccruise.com as an alternate contact method, and said he would read the email and call me back.  I sent him my list of questions / observations and he called me back in less than 5 minutes.

I have an older version and he emailed me the proper documentation (3 pdf files, and again, in less than 5 minutes with the cover letter below) so I can better inventory my parts.  He strongly recommends that I add the relay to protect the computer's chip(s) from voltage fluctuations that might fry the computer and override any and all clutch / brake functions sending me on an unanticipated wild ride.  With the relay mod, I will be fine.

All the reviews and comments I read about their customer service seem accurate.

Hi David,

If you have the ECS in your kit, don’t plug it in because it will probably blow up from high voltage spikes when you turn on the ignition switch.  All Valkyries are susceptible to this.

Your computer loom MUST be earthed to the negative terminal on the battery – despite what it might say in the attached (very old) instructions.

There is an hydraulic clutch switch available should you want it.

You should have connection to the tach signal on that unit if my memory serves me right – it is 12 years ago!

Have a read and get back to me.

Best regards,

Tony Guymer

Dave, you will love it.  I put one on a couple of months ago and helped a friend install one just three weeks ago.  The worst part of the installation is tearing the bike all apart and putting it back together.  Just follow the instructions to the letter and it will work great.  Be thankful for your good fortune in getting a good price on it.  They have gone up considerably in the last four months....JTL   cooldude

I have an early system (10 years old) and it still works flawlessly. I can confirm that the service is excellent. Broke my actuator switch due to clumsyness and received instant (within the hour) reply by Tony. He even went to the trouble of re-engeneering my actuator switch, since it was not manufactured anymore. This guy is 100% bikerproof!
