At work today in downtown Houston there are usually 10 or so motorcycles parked in front of the pay station of a high rise garage on the 1stfl.
I drove my company vehicle in today and as a coworker and I was passing through the 1stfl motorcycle area a new guy I've never seen pulled in on a brand new harley full dresser. He had got off his bike and was removing his helmet when I walked towards him and said "MAN, THATS JUST AN AWESOME BIKE!!!" . His eyes lit up and was about to speak when I stopped 1 bike short of his bike and started telling my coworker what a great motorcycle this old 1990's+ Honda Shadow 1100 was that was parked next to the new Harley. He turned around and walked off.........I guess that was just mean.

I keep my bike pretty well maintained, been riding my whole life and have very seldom broken down. However, I never leave a biker broken down on the side of the road. I will stop every time and see if I can help. I got a trailer, tools and a place to store one till they can get help. Every Harley I've ever stopped to see if they need help has refused my help, several even indignant about it. They can't handle their buddies seeing a Honda help them.

Yep....I was parked next to a HD Roadking at a Toys for Tots a couple years back. His battery was dead, I had jumper cables in my saddlebag. I offered to give him a jump. He didnt respond to me, just looked at his wife/girlfriend and said "Id rather get towed than get a jump from a honda" didnt even look at me.

Well the Tom Foolery is just as bad coming and going.
So for one of us to perpetuate this indignation any further is just foolish.
How many Harley Leaks Oil jokes do we here.
Here's my favorite, Why are 80% of Harleys still on the road today? Because only 20% made it home.
Oh my God now I am doing it.LOL
But truthfully the Harley dudes need to lighten up as well.
Read in Cycle World that Harley production is slowing down due to the Earthquake/Psunamai in Japan.
Showa Shocks and Forks grace all Harleys, so no real difference any more, I wish the Harley dudes would wake up.
Without Showa, Harley would have no adequate means of support, Without China they would have to ride Naked(ALL MOTORCLOTHES MADE IN CHINA).

Saw a Harly I liked yesterday. It had a very good looking young lady riding it. And I mean she was riding it. Leaning in the curves gassing it at the apex, and in general showing that she knew what she was doing. Had an awesome sounding set of pipes. Was refreshing to watch, but I would have felt better if she would have worn a jacket, gloves and something beside a skid lid. She did have boots and jeans, the spagetti strap top she wore sans gloves looked great, but sure wouldnt look so good in an accident. Of course that would have gotten in the way of the Harley look, so was probably worth it for her.

How did he "dis" the Harley? He said nothing about the Harley, didn't insult it, didn't say it sucked, nothing of the sort. All he did was showed his respect to a bike other than the Harley. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
If he'd said something like "Your Honda is so much better than that POS Harley" that'd be a different story, but going by the story as related, he did nothing of the sort.
I've done similar things. At bike shows or bike nights, I'll often walk right past all the "Me Too!" Harleys and compliment the rider on a 1960's Honda or BSA or Triumph or anything that catches my eye. Is that insulting the Harleys? I said nothing to or about them at all.

I'm sure my bike has been dissed more than once by Harley folks and couldn't care less. To each his own.

Im sorry when I hear any dissing going on either way I have received some, but really it was from those that I would consider a total waste of skin. A guy came into the shop the other day and just stood there and looked my bike over he had a Harley and wasn't happy with it well he may be lurking on this site now and soon may be the proud owner of a Valk. My son builds and sells some of the Nicest Harleys that you have seen and we do ride together in fact my son in law bought a Harley too so its the 3 of us but although they have wire wheels lights and chrome there isn't a place we go that someone doesn't come over and look at my bike when there are these 2 custom Harley s next to it and comment what a nice bike. We ride Honda's to be different why do we have to act like a******* just like some of them. Most I have known have a real respect for the Valk and most are just regular guys.

Gotta throw in on this one,,, I retired and a guy I know gave me $100 gift card to the local harley shop. I bought some nice gloves and shirts with the town name on the back. I was talking to the owner (lady) I graduated with. Told her my son wanted a Street Glide and I would not mind a dresser after I needed a lighter bike when my knees got old. Some guy overheard us and insulted me for buying Harley shirts when I rode a Honda. I told him I was looking at Harley mirrors too so I could keep track of the harleys when I am on the road. He shut up after that.

Last wknd I ran into a couple "real" bikers who didn't have the common courtesy to return a nod. Jill and I probably put more miles on the Valk just getting to their little town than they'll put on their bar-hoppers all summer. The real shame is, they are in the process of turning a friendly little country bar into a "biker bar". Harley riders can kill a honky tonk faster than a bi-lingual juke box.

I ride with all HD riders, we bust stones all the time about my valk and their HD's... 98% of HD owners/riders are pretty good group...but there is that 2% that want the rep and only ride to the corner bar becuase they have the loud pipes that say LOOK AT ME...I AM COOL! Anyway, I bought and ride my Valk because it looks like nothing else...be different it drives people crazy

If you were truly only commenting on the Honda not intending it for his ears then I was mistaken in my assessment.
Were it me and that had occurred I would have followed with some compliments for his ride to diminish his embarrassment, but that's just me.

I know the HD rider sitting out of gas didn't mind accepting the gas I drained out of the aux tank to get him going again my Harley riding friends tell me that a Harley won't run on Honda gas. I did ask him if my gas would "work" in a HD, and he told me he'd bummed gas out of a boat's gas tank with oil mixture before to get going, so he didn't anticipate there being any problem with "Honda" gas
