Put out the word at a late hour about this little jaunt. I started out about 1030hrs, but put out I would be at the Snake Store at 1300hrs.

But guess who sees the post and shows up.

Charlie Mac of Valkyrie Fame.

Pulled in and saw a Valk and thought could it be someone saw the post and came for a ride.

There he sits grinning and making a new friend, they rode in on the Goldwing Trike in the picture.

Charlie Mac

Charlie's new friend snapped a photo for us. Said he had a Camera just like mine, did not take a picture of my camera for obvious reasons.

Charlie said he really did not have time to ride anywhere  for a long distance, he had chores to attend to ,like put his kitchen back together, that was taken apart for remodeling purposes.

But when we got to Damacus Virginia, he said I should really see the damage just North of here, you can see some in Damascus, see sign laying on the ground.

But sadly you will see much more in the next few frames. Those with weakness in the knees should stop now.

April 27th of 2011 will be remembered for a lot of things,Day of the Huge Frontal System that killed 100's of folks, this story is one of many ,,of nature's

 destructive power.

The location is Glade Springs, Virginia.

A story which is tragic,, beyond measure for some. It came out of the West and went east, an F-3 Tornado.

The rest as they say is history.

I think the "x" on the doors means they were already searched.

This is the back of the Glade Drug Store , where Charlie Mac's Sister works, this is actually a lucky part , the store is still in business. Please note

the makeshift power pole on the back with extension cords running into the store.

A farm house on the outskirts of town, will have to be taken down, the front was even worse.

Total disaster and destruction was everywhere.

Across the road from Glade Drug Store, was A Petros Truck Stop, with at least 200 trucks parked for the night, @ 1:20AM, The Tornado hit and blew

Semi's and their trailers all over the lot and If you can imagine this, across the Interstate 81. Many were hurt in this part of town, but

none were killed. Again nothing left to take a picture of. Just destruction.

We went across the Intersate 81 and viewed the damage on that side, it was pretty horrific, so much so we did not take pictures and rode on through, it

 was devastating,

one of the line crew there was balancing himslf on flat ground against a blown away refrigerator from a local house and was so tired all he could do was

 stand there for a moment.

This picture will be the last I am posting of this disaster, Charlie's permission was given on this one, his friend was killed here, found in a tree , his wife

was rescued from the rubble  but injured, she said the last thing she knew of her husband , she was struggling to get him in the basement.

FEMA has refused to help these folks, even though their officials have pleaded for the relief they need, just to start over.

Please Pray for these folks of Glade Springs.

When Al took the pic of the apartment bldg damaged by tornado he was standing in what used to be the driveway of a former co-worker of mine who was killed by the tornado April 27.  The house was brick construction and there's nothing left but the floor area....walls, roof, all gone....scattered over several miles.

Sorry to hear about your co-worker.

It seems crazy to be talking about tornados in these parts.

I grew up in Pulaski and NEVER thought that there would ever be a tornado there.

I don't think that man has ever built anything that can withstand a direct hit from a tornado.

Give me a shout sometime maybe we can meet up in Marion and ride SR 16.

If I left anything out Charlie feel free to exspound on any subject. Getting tired now.

But I wanted to get the story out to at least a few people.

Sorry about all this tragedy in your area.

Time will heal, but we will never forget.

Bump, in case some one missed the crazy stuff a tornado is made of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,take cover.

Believe it or not, some people still don't know which is the more imminent threat,,, a watch or a warning.

Warning of course is the most dangerous, but both can kill.

Hard to believe FEMA denied Glade Spring. But then again
it IS the government we're dealing with! tickedoff
